Movie Pimping
Dec 23, 2002

Greedy, greedy, greedy! Movie Execs are just too greedy it seems to me. I would like to just go to a movie, see it for myself and judge whether or not I thought it was worth seeing. Did that use to happen? I can understand trailers, movie ads and on-line sites but do they have to soak us until we drown so they can get every penny ever made and more for their movie? Are they ever gonna state, "The Times rated this movie a 'stay at home' movie", "2 thumbs down from Movie Town", are they gonna put that up on the screen? How about ticket purchasing at the box office and movie-goer word-of-mouth selling the movies; the most seen and enjoyed gets best press(local, national and international), everybody gets paid, we see our favorite movie stars do tv guest spots not vice versa.

I'm tired of seeing my favorite stars having to come on a show not because the movie is good and we want to adore and see more of them but because the movie is coming out that weekend and it's in their contract to pimp for the studios. Imagine the disrespect for most great stars now, almost, kinda, sorta disrespect, maybe, pity. Most of them seem to have to make the rounds on the late & early shows close to release weekend(how incredulous),I probably could tolerate the neophites & starlets having to "pre-promote" sometimes.

So much for the films people are going to see because the super good actors are in it, it's got an interesting plot or that's my favorite genre of films; all this makes the prospect of the Oscars even more dubious. Movie pimping, another form of societal programming, who can stop the cheese squeeze from ruining our leisure?
