Feb 19, 2003 For years people have been saying, “ I need to lose weight! I hate the extra weight on me and I just can’t deal with holding my breath till I turn blue and zipping up my pants at the same time. “ We all have made the cringing frustrated face now and then, as we try to button up or zip up our pants thinking to ourselves “ Aww man, damn it. Shoot!” as we realize the pants are too tight and we just hate having that extra piece of “Pudge” there that’s in the way. Face it, its something that bothers EVERYONE, as we go day in and day out having this problem again and again, and breathing a frustrated sigh. So, in desperation for wanting to shed the extra pounds, we often turn to Weight Watchers, Slim Fast, Jump Start (part of the Slim Fast Family), Jenny Craig, as well as other things like counting calories and weighing every little thing, till there’s nothing left to weigh. So, at the end of the day we find ourselves dying of exhaustion and enormous frustration. And then of course, there are the hundreds of Diet Pills on the market these days, all trying to live up to their promised advertisement gig, of wanting to lend a helping hand to weight loss. But then again, the bad thing with those pills happens to be, that some people desperate enough of wanting to lose weight end up popping the pills like candy! Another well known yet unsuccessful method tried by many is the method of wanting to lose weight by skipping meals, by starving ourselves or even just going on crazy diets like "“Water Only diet”, “Grapefruit Diet” and other things, only to avoid the obvious.. And the obvious just happens to be that “Losing weight is hard to do”. Losing weight is definitely hard to do no one ever said it was easy, but “Couch Potatoes” make it sound like losing weight is like jumping out a window to attempt suicide. It’s just completely out of the question for many, because they have gotten accustomed to their self and their body image, and are fine with the fact that, they are the way they are, since it’s even harder for them, to lose a bit of weight and see results, a few months later, then it is for people who exercise a few times a week on a regular basis. Fact is, “Couch Potatoes” just can’t seem to distance themselves from their most favorite yummy foods. It is sad but true. And so the weight keeps on piling up! As time goes by, we hop from one Weight loss product to another, much like leapfrogs tend to do in a big pond. We also turn to yo-yo dieting because no weight loss product has ever been perfect enough for someone to try and keep their weight off for years. But we all tend to go back eventually to do our own thing with dieting naturally, exercising and cutting down on our most loved and yummy foods to keep the weight off that way. We often make New Year resolutions year after year and say that we will lose weight..yet many fail to go through with this task only a few months after, because it just becomes unbearably impossible to live life without something yummy. So, we end up either “putting the darn diet off entirely because we just cant seem to bring ourselves to do it and constantly hear these voices in our heads, of the snacks in the store or at home, calling our name and saying “Hi .. Please buy me” or “Come on you know you want me.” I look soo good and there is the nice color of wrapping around me “.”I bet you can’t wait to rip my package off and just munch on me”. It’s a complete dieter’s nightmare, hearing that wonderful sound of music and at the same time feeling guilty for just wanting to reach out and munch. And so another diet fails, and we often times figure “ Oh, what the heck there’s always next year”. As we turn to skipping our days of dieting, where we skip diets and put em off for another day, or even end up cheating ourselves completely, because we once again fall prey to some delicious mouth watering goodies. A very small number of people, succeeds in the game of dieting, as they with time, learn to deal with tuning out those voices completely as they change their eating habits, and their cravings slowly stop, or even slowly disappear. That alone says, “Losing weight is hard to do.” About the author: I'm a full time college student / Journalism Major.
