The Sinister Plot Behind Valentine's Day
Feb 15, 2003

Valentine's day is not politically correct.

First of all, it discriminates against those who have no Valentine and second of all it just adds to the pain of those who have just broke up, or of those who wish to break up but just haven't gotten around to it. (I think that the reason that most people stay married to each other if they have been married for seven years is because they are just to tired to do anything about it.) Anyway, V-day is also a great way to get yourself into a whole heap of trouble if you are a man. God help you if you forget.

Valentines day is of course made up as a revenue producing day for all the retailers. You know, February is a kind of slow month and so they had to come up with something for people to spend their money on. President's day wasn't cutting it. (When was the last time that you heard anyone ask you what you got for Presidents day?) So, the card and candy and candle companies make a killing on Valentine's day. (Kind of the Valentines day massacre, if you will.) So does victoria's Secret. (I never have figured out what her secret is. It can't have anything to do with her clothes because they sure as heck don't hide anything.)

There is a much more sinister plot going on here though. Something much bigger. Something that is, dear reader, an earth shattering discovery that I have made. VALENTINE'S DAY WAS ACTUALLY STARTED BY THE ALL POWERFULL OB-GYN LOBBY. That is right. Think about it. Make the connection. You buy her candy, flowers, cards, and victoria's secret stuff and what do you get in return? You get to spend more money on those prenatal vitamins and more money on OB-GYN visits and more money on diapers, and pacifiers, and bottles, and baby food, and school clothes and finally on college. Just do yourself a favor: Send them to College to be an OB-GYN. A little secret revenge on your part.
