Mar 19, 2004 If CNN is the antithesis of Fox News, then NPR has the same relationship with reality. With striking regularity, I am able to turn on NPR in the morning and hear all sorts of stories bashing President Bush and Republicans in general. Whether it’s an expert telling us that the sky if falling, or interviews with apparently every individual in a small PA town telling us that the War in Iraq is wrong…you can usually set your watch by their extreme Liberalism. NPR’s general and systemic disregard for the truth set up for nearly heart-stopping shock this morning on my way to work. I was listening to the publicly-funded Liberal mouthpiece (as a means to see what the ‘other side’ is saying) and they nearly knocked my socks off. The story was about the economy, and the gist was that we are ‘in-sourcing’ nearly as many jobs as are being ‘out-sourced.’ As if that wasn’t enough, they actually went on to mention ‘President Bush’ in the same breath as something to the effect that ‘the economy is not as bad as some people are saying.’ Hey, I’ll take even backhanded complements at this point. Let’s take a brief look at how this story could be developed from this point. --- Fox News version: Host Ess– And we’re back. Moving on to our top story now, a recent study finds that nearly an equal number of jobs are currently being in- sourced as are being out-sourced. Let’s turn now to our expert, Economan. Economan – That’s right, Ms. Ess, we’re seeing a trend that has been overlooked up until now. With all the talk about out-sourcing, no one has been looking for the other side of the ‘new economy.’ You know, Host, some people are going to look at this trend and say, “Well, what good is in-sourcing? Sure Americans get jobs, but the profits are sent oversees.” I think that people need to take a hard look at such statements. After all, it would only seem to make sense that any drawbacks to out-sourcing would be exactly the advantages of in-sourcing. Host – Thanks for coming by, Economan. Now, I’ve got to get to my RWC* meeting. NPR Version: Anchor S. Away – A recent study finds that nearly an equal number of jobs are currently being in-sourced as are being out-sourced. Let’s turn now to our expert, Aca Demic. You know Mr. Demic, a lot of people have been saying that, “Any drawbacks to out-sourcing would be exactly the advantages of in-sourcing.” What do you say to that? Aca Demic – Well Mr. Away, I say: What good is in-sourcing? Sure Americans get jobs, but the profits are sent oversees. I’m surprised by the number of so-called ‘experts’ who see sending company profits and control oversees as a good thing. There are plenty of hardworking Americans doing everything they can to start up businesses…but they’re having a hard time competing with all this in-sourcing. I think that the answer is to protect the American Entrepreneur, and incidentally help pay for George Bush’s tax cuts, by instituting an ‘in- sourcing’ tax. Anchor S. Away – I’ve been hearing similar things from many other people. Thanks for your time. --- Well, I guess we’ll see if this debate gets started, let alone takes these trajectories. With any luck, we’ll see a serious discussion of in-sourcing and various other aspects to the current economic upturn (e.g., the true definition of the ‘Unemployment Rate’). *RWC – Right Wing Cabal ------------ About the author: Tom is a conservative medical student in liberal New England who probably spends too much time paying attention to politics and never lacks topics for friendly discussions.
