Aug 22, 2002 Special Sauce: ¾ cup mayonnaise 3 tablespoons ketchup 3 tablespoons sweet pickle relish 1 tablespoon sugar 1 tablespoon minced dried onion ¼ teaspoon salt Burgers: 2 ¼ pounds ground sirloin 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce ¼ teaspoon salt ¼ teaspoon black pepper ¼ teaspoon garlic powder 12 slices smoked bacon 6 slices cheddar cheese (about 1 0z each) 9 seeded hamburger buns 6 large leaves Iceberg lettuce Special Sauce: In a small bowl, stir together mayonnaise, ketchup, relish, sugar, dried onion and salt. Cover and refrigerate until ready to use. Burgers: In large bowl, mix together sirloin, Worcestershire, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Form into 6 hamburgers, about ¾ inch thick. In a large skillet, cook bacon over medium-high heat until crisp, 6 to 8 minutes. Remove to paper toweling to drain; keep warm. Prepare outdoor grill with hot coals or heat gas grill. (Or cook using oven method below.) Grill burgers uncovered, 4 minutes. Turn over; grill 3 minutes or until internal temperature reaches 155 degrees on instant read thermometer. Place a slice of cheese on each burger. Grill, covered, 1 minute, until cheese melts. Remove burgers from grill; keep warm. Toast the buns if you wish. To Construct Burgers: Reserve 6 bun tops. Spread each bun bottom with 1 tablespoon sauce. Place a burger on top of each of the 6 bottoms. Top each with one of the remaining bun halves; spread each with 1 tablespoon sauce. Arrange 2 strips cooked bacon and 1 lettuce leaf on ech. Top each with one of reserved bun tops. Serve with remaining sauce, and with french fries, if desired. Oven Method: Heat broiler. Coat broiler pan with nonstick cooking spray. Broil burgers 4 to 6 inches from heat for 4 minutes. Turn and broil 4 minutes.
