Aug 20, 2002 I know that in today’s society it just isn’t the thing to send actually mail; snail mail for those of you in the computer generation. With email, instant messenger, text messaging, and now you can even send pictures over a cell phone, the thought of sitting down and penning a letter to your dear old granny just doesn’t seem, well, instant. I have found that an actual hand written letter, note or even greeting card gets a better response from the reader than an email message. It gives a personal touch that lets the person you are writing to know that you really care. There is an opportunity to reach out and honestly touch a person with that small piece of yourself that you leave behind on the paper. I know that it is a waste of a tree and harmful to our environment, but a hand written note is much more comforting to me than an email when I’m hurting. I use a personal stationary and an outrageous colored pen. Pink or maybe a metallic green. I love fairies, dragons, and such so I have them on my stationary. I like to think that seeing an envelope in the mail with a unicorn stamped on the back will make people feel special. It is entirely up to you of course but the impersonal email just doesn’t cut it for me much anymore. ------------ Teresa Cook is the official "home" columnist for Useless-Knowledge.com.
