Useless Poetry, Opinionated "StoryPoems"
Feb 22, 2003

Useless Poetry, opinionated "StoryPoems" written by me [as I am in the "Ecclesiastes", "Catch-22", "Why Bother?" stage of my life]

Observing the Tides Day after the Ides

We took the happy out of holidays,
We made private life public,
We took the sport out of sports,
We took the joy out of teaching,
The pride out of medicine,
The compassion out of preaching.
We took the fun out of life.
We're the monkey with the wrench;
We deny wearing a tie.
We bricked the goods behind the walls.
We made the universal, on-line calls.
We do not have to remain the same;
With wisdom, peace and truth,
We can change, relieve the pain.
All is not for profit, not for gain.
Life is for living, loving, and giving.

I Am Earth

I am the beauty in all that you see.
But how you treat me!
My fairgrounds, green grass and ocean shores are your great outdoors,
Your playground wherein love can be found.
I am your beach, please don't trash me.
A source of your enjoyment, don't act rashly.
You developed highways for your use,
You dirty them up through neglect and abuse.
You continue to offshore, onshore pollute.

Ashtrays are good, dumpsters are better.
Mother Earth is not an ashtray,
Though we treat her that way.
Nor is she a dump for our throwaways.

Silk And Sand

The ocean tide rolls in.
With an appreciative eye,
I glimpse the fish jumping high,
Swimming and skimming by.
Between sun and surf, midway,
The birds are communicating plans for the day,
Strategies of a morning feast up in the skyway.

Powerful sand between my hands,
Hard sand, soft sand, wet sand, dry sand.
Gentle forces, like blood through my body courses,
Gentle current, forceful tide.
High tide, low tide, fast tide, slow tide.

The passing yacht's motor has a special effect, a pattern of silken ribbons its current flow directs.
Toward the shore the silken waves of ribbon
End in a glorious, rushing sound.
What a magnificent place found.
For man---a most beauteous land.

The beach has much to teach,
Of its sanctity I will preach.
Nature lovers, you are my sisters, you are my brothers.
