May 20, 2003 Wow, what a let down ‘Matrix Reloaded’ was for me AND who needed all those Agent Smiths? Neo flying like Superman…the love-making scenes between he & Trinity, all contrived and looked it. Zion?! Who wants to live in that overpopulated boiler room? I don’t as much as I’m frustrated with this world and the foretellings of hevean and hell. Yeah, I think I’m gonna hafta take the blue pill on this one! Oohh, how I wanted to believe in some explanation of what the masquerade of this world was all about, thought my “fancy was tickled”(The Oracle) only to find out the program is a program and there are many other programs running simultaneously. The Oracle, a program, no way!! I was ready to vote her into greek “mythologyhood”as a goddess! Then here comes Mr. White Man in his white suit, the power behind the programs(again). As for Morpheus…I was ready to vote to commit him into the looney bin on this film myself because his fanatacism seemed so fanatic. Here yet another hero dashed to pieces! So calm, cool, collect and suave in the original ‘Matrix’ brother should be taking a chill pill this sequel. I went to see the original Matrix 3 times at the theatre and watched it over and over again on cable. Always interesting, always something new to find out; I perceive myself as somewhat of a movie fiend yet I realize there are many people who’ve seen many movies many more times than I, especially ‘The Matrix’(like the guy dressed in all black, clad with a black, wrinkled, loose- fitting raincoat and yes “sporting”shades at night in a movie theatre, but, alas, he was at the concession stand). Too much was going on in this moving without making too many connections; in my humble, ignorant opinion. As much as I love Jada Pinkett-Smith(especially when her role calls for her long “locks” of hair, she’s even more beautiful)…What was she doing in the Matrix? I know she was making cheese, ching, ching, ching and all of that but the love triangle between Niobe, Morpheus and the jealous commander who’s name escapes me(and probably will eternally as he was just another insignificant hindrance to my hero, Morpheus) was also contrived and nonsensical to me. In all fairness, I will MAKE myself go again to see this film and hope there is hope in ‘The Matrix Reloaded’ perhaps some scenes will come together for me and I can get back to you with a better report or even apology for my imperception which I sort of kinda did with Tom Cruz’s movie ‘The Minority Report’ but not really for my feeling of how people can allow 3 “pre-cogs”, beings from another planet, remain captive in a semi-watery grave of a storage bin in order to keep our society crime-free was right on, but, of course, they did redeem themselves by having them released in the end, which to be honest about it, I’d fallen asleep by the time of that scene. Even ‘X2’ was better this time and I vote it the summer’s smash, at least most improved sequel, thus far, having been asked my opinion of recent movie releases.
