Jan 7, 2003 President George W. Bush is planning to give a tax break to the rich but what is he doing for the American worker or the small businessman? Absolutely nothing! Why should mega rich corporations receive huge tax breaks that will never benefit the average worker. How soon the government forgets who built America through blood, sweat and toil. Why would anyone want to reward tax breaks to corporate CEO's while millions of Americans continue to struggle to feed, clothe and educate their families. This insanity for greed and wealth must end. While these mega huge corporations receive huge profits and tax breaks, millions of poor American workers work like slaves. The plundering of America must stop. Isn't it time the government starts to help those in need first? Take for example the nation of Cuba. Despite it problems this island of freedom continues to survive. In Cuba all children receive an education. There is free medical care for all, unemployment continues to fall. The 40 year American blockcade of this socialist society instead of weakening the people has only made them more determined to survive. Perhaps its time to learn from their example. History has proven how an island nation without wealth and resources has managed to survive. It is common knowledge that great ideas and determination are for more important than greed and money. Their tenacity and heroism cannot be exstinguished but continue to burn brightly. Let us hope that Mr. Bush will listen to reason and help those common Americans who continue to struggle in a society of greed and corruption gone mad. Yes tax breaks are needed but not for corporate America but for the common man who fuels the economy through his resourcefulness and strength. It's time we all learn to share and help one another just like the Cuban people have done for over four decades. ------------ Stephen Winter resides in Halton Hills, Ontario in Canada.
