June 9, 2003 In all the navel gazing we do here on this site, somewhere in between the political musings and the speculation, the ranting and the railing against, powers and principalities and the status quo.. There’s a uniquely human quality the ability to question why? We trade our thoughts and feelings across the divides of time and space in the forlorn hope that somehow we are making a difference. Somehow our thoughts and feelings matter and the act of writing them down makes a difference. Is this an illusion? Or can the simple act of composing a few words on virtual paper manifest change? I like to imagine the founding fathers toiling over the Declaration of Independence for distribution via e-mail! To wonder what effect those words would have today if they were being seen for the first time. Would they galvanize a citizenry to action or would those seminal thoughts fall on deaf ears and delete buttons. By the same token what use would the despots and dictators of history make of these same tools? How far and how fast would the fascist propaganda of Nazi hate travel? We are alive at a fortunate time and in wealthy and powerful culture. The tools for change lay all around us but few if any will spend the time to exercise our innate abilities. Trapped in an invisible web of programmed wants and needs that leave us little time to think. Somewhere between mortgages and credit card bills, PTA meetings and soccer practice something valuable is being missed. Take a minute and think about the people that you know and work with.. How many times have you talked about what’s wrong with the world and between the two of you come up with a simple way to fix things? It’s not that easy or is it? Can we wrest the balance of power back into the hands of the peaceful committed individual or groups? Or are we all cogs in the machinery, turning circles because that’s what we do? The common sense revolution will begin and take hold in people’s hearts but the medium and the message are right here before you now. Somewhere in a classroom or an office is the next Thomas Jefferson putting his thoughts and ideas down in the hope that somehow, somewhere it will make a difference. In every article that I read here no matter who the author or subject I find a little spark of the same inspiration. The conscious asking of the very simple question why? And the courage and conviction to write the truth as they alone see it. So let me ask you something..have, you got a minute? Thats my useless-knowledge for today..
