Reltionships: How We Can Make Them Better?
Sept 10, 2002

When man enters this world he is dependent on others for his survival. Unlike most of the other species living on Planet Earth, the human infant is the one who cannot survive without adult support and help and this incapacity gives him an added advantage, he starts communicating with his surrounding from the very first day of his life and establish relationships with the world around him. First it is family, then neighbourhood and friends, and in the end with society. Some relationships really work wonders, while others do not progress the way we want them. However, if we take into account certain things we can make our lives better and happier.

In any relationship there should be equal level of committment on both sides, no relationship can ever work if one of the two sides do not show the same sincerity and enthusiasm, especially in case of friendship, it can develop only when you have same or almost same social standing. Barring few exceptions no one can cite many examples where boss is a good friend of a subordinate.

There should be mutual dignity trust and respect in a relationship. If one of the two parties advance by compromising any one of these, he cannot continue for long. Though it is true that we should not make calculations in our relationships, and love is sacrifice but your own dignity and self respect are supreme. Any person who has miutest association with anyone will never demand such a big price in any kind of relationship. We should certainly make adjustments and if a person reacts to certain situation in an unexpected way we should try to see and judge things from his perspective. This would give us an opportunity to have a clear and better understanding of the situation as well as of the individual and help us find better solutions.

However close you are in any relationship, always respect individual privacy. Let them keep certain things to themselves, but make sure to be on their side when they desperately need you that is in theirs lows and testing times, because there are certain situations where nobody except a good friend can pull us out.

Relationships are very important for healthy survival of an individual and cannot be made or broken easily, but sometimes all the necessary ingredients of a good relationship are there, yet there is no meaningful relationship. No matter how hard you try, it is something beyond our control, but be optimistic there is always a really nice person out there who is actually looking for the kind of person you are, and accepts you, the way you are.

In my next i would write what little things we can do for each other to make ourselves happy.
