Apr 4, 2004 So there are more lies and less facts in politics. Do you ever wonder what kind people want to be in politics? It use to be that they wanted to do something good for everyone. Now it’s two Yale rich boys wanting to tell the rest of us poor slobs how it is. I bet they never had to scrape the last bite of peanut butter out of a jar. I know people who leave their tools out in the rain. “Oh well, I’ll just get another one,” the neighbor tells me. “In spring.” And his tool stays in the rain. He must have plenty of money. Nothing lasts for him. I suppose it’s his parents fault but then again maybe it’s society’s fault. “Let’s get a new one,” says one kid when his dog dies. How smart is that? Did the kid learn anything about being kind to animals, to be a steward of the world, or to feel sympathy? I don’t think so. If a person doesn’t feel sympathy and understanding, how can that person want to decide what’s right for the rest of us? If you’re so well off that you think nothing of the gas prices, then you’re living with your head in the sand. Ever wonder if Kerry or Bush had to only put in half a tank and hope to make it to the end of the week or payday? I don’t think so. We’re sinking here. I thought the middle class was the majority. You know, majority rules. The middle class is sinking and it’s us. Here’s a thought: the average Joe on the television show isn’t even average -- he’s a millionaire. That misnomer cracks me up. If you’ve got a million you’re just an average Joe. Hmmm. So if you make $40,000 a year does that make you working poor? Yep, it sure does but not to rich people. Something is screwy here. We need to figure out what’s real and what isn’t. I got to go. My cat’s got the evening shift at Starbucks. Without him working, I couldn’t afford a $3.00 cup of Joe. ------------ To learn more about the author: visit www.RDLarson.com plus there are new Christmas stories at www.BeWrite.net or email RD Larson: RDLarson419@aol.com Tell a friend about this site! ------------ |
