Mar 21, 2004 Imagine just for second. You are running for President of a big country. Your life is more visible than any movie star's life. Every failure and success is commented on by the media and by their analysts. Have any dark secrets? Not for long. People will hunt them out. Members of the opposition and maybe just mean spirited individuals track your every movement. So you don't want to be President? I don't blame you. Me either. Another scenario: Okay go one step further. Imagine just for a second, every keystroke on your PC is counted and logged. Every item you've ever bought is fed into a file somewhere with your name on it. Imagine friends and family being able to comment about you without your knowing. Strangers use their phones to photograph you. Everywhere you go there's a camera of some kind. This is not imagination or future world. It's now. Of course, the authorities have your DNA and so does your ex. Licked your envelope to enter a contest -- in the DNA mix. After a few generations, no one will be different. We'll all be exactly the same. That scares me and makes me wonder if there'll ever be the artistic and scientific breakthroughs that have done so much for this world. Dare to be different. Feed your cat table scraps. Sometimes. I do. And now I feel so much better. I don't think anyone saw me. ------------ To learn more about the author: visit www.RDLarson.com plus there are new Christmas stories at www.BeWrite.net or email RD Larson: RDLarson419@aol.com Tell a friend about this site! ------------ |
