May 11, 2004 There is nothing like another non-partisan political commission on television. It surly will help instill faith in our system and its leaders. As I write this I am watching the questioning of a general on the prisoner abuse in Iraq. It gives me great confidence in this objective process as I listen to the precise, intelligent questioning from the pillars of our system such as Ted Kennedy, Robert Byrd and Carl Levin. The integrity oozing from these three makes me proud to be an American. They exhibit the inward character necessary in getting to the bottom of these problems without the least bit of partisan politics. Hurray for Kennedy, Levin and Byrd. Kudos for their…”Pete, wake up, you’re dreaming.” Oh, I was dreaming. Sorry. For a minute I thought we had a commission who were truly trying to solve a problem and honestly get to the bottom of a bad situation. Of course, I know better than that. These “circus acts” know as commissions are the biggest farce in government. They serve no purpose and in fact hurt the overall effort in Iraq. Hey, how ‘bout putting it on radio instead. Then we don’t have to look at the theatrics from the likes of the phony balcony blow-hards whose only concern is getting elected. ,br> Sorry, had to take a break while a democratic Senator was brow-beating a military man on some trivial issue not related to the abuse. His self righteous stare was one I’m sure he had practiced many times this morning. I am struck by the contrast of the professional attitude of all the military personnel and the sophomoric antics of the commissioners as they play their “gottcha” game that dominates Washington today. I have to go now.
