Feb 27, 2003 That was the first thing I thought when I saw in the news the new plans for extra security in a plane. The plan is as follows: Pilots will get a, 5 day, training, 48 hours to be precise, in how to use a hand gun. They will carry this gun, like a police man, on their hips. The reason for this is to increase safety on a plane. I am very sorry, but this is beyond my understanding. Mr. Terrorist!!! Do not worry any longer on how to get a weapon into the plane! The pilot will bring it into the plane for you. Mr. Passenger!!! Do not fly business class any more. You will be dangerously close to the pilot. In case an idiot decides to attack the pilot, the pilot may use his gun. Guess in what direction the bullets will be flying!!! According to the news most pilots actually are in favor of this idea. Mr. Pilot!!! Don’t be such a Macho!!! We all know you are the pilot of the plane. We all know you are the boss in the plane. We all know you are in charge. No need to confirm it with a gun. You are a pilot!!! Not a police man. For the same reason we do not like to see a police man fly the plane, we prefer you to be without a gun!!! A 747 may give some comfort. The pilot’s gun can only hit the upper deck. So if you decide to fly business class, make sure you don’t get a seat on the upper deck. There is plenty of room in the business class below. In other planes it is better to sit as far in the back as possible. More chance somebody else will catch the bullets and less chance you get hit. It is just beyond my understanding that this is actually considered to increase safety in the plane. A gun in a plane is just a bad idea, especially in the hands of people that are not trained to use them in a plane. 48 hours of practice is not enough. 480 hours would not be enough. It is just not his/her job. Some passengers were interviewed in an airport. They thought it would be good for safety in a plane. Again I thought: ????????????????????????????????????????????????? ????????????????? We don’t like police men to work in a hospital to do operations. That does not make us feel any safer. We don’t like doctors to use a gun to remove a mole. But hey, sit down in a big metal tube sitting on thousands of gallons of highly flammable fuel! Fly it up to 30.000 feet above the earth by a pilot with a gun on his hip…. Yeah, now we feel a lot safer. It really makes a difference. Hmmm, oh I can sleep fine now in a plane. There is nothing more dangerous than an animal that is afraid or scared. It will respond in an excessive way, will overreact. It seems to me that some countries in the world today are scared. Fear is always your greatest enemy. And this enemy can only be beaten by your self. Admit you are afraid, and the battle is half won. You will be able to see your enemies in a more realistic way and respond accordingly.
