Things to Remind you to Laugh!
June 6, 2003

Every now and then life likes to sneak up on you and remind you to get a sense of humor. I have the great ability to have it sneak up on my daily, sometimes hourly. So I decided to share a few things that make me stop and laugh and I must say in the end, it makes me feel good. Laughter truly is a great form of medicine.

It seems that whenever I pick up the bottle of shampoo or the body wash, Herbal Essence of course YES! I open it up and am instantly met with a cold blast of water that has accumulated in there since my last shower. It never fails, the cap holds onto that water and waits for me. By now I should learn to hold it away from me, but this creature of habit is doomed in that department.

I dont know how many times I am going to keep stacking the plates in the smaller cupboard. Again, creature of habit, but I have stacked the dishes that we use every single night in a small little cupboard and then placed the matching smaller saucers and on top of that the bowls. I am always reaching up trying to adjust and maneuver everything to get to the plates, because I am too lazy to pick up all the dishes stacked on top of it. What I should do is rearrange the cupboard and save myself a lot of time and hassle.

Why do I always forget the most important things on the shopping list? What I need to do is keep up inventory all week by purchasing a wipe board and having everyone list the things they need regularly. It never fails that I get home, open the refrigerator, and find Ive forgotten something!

The wires and cords underneath my desk drive me nuts and my feet get tangled up in them. There are tons of devices out there to help alleviate that problem, yet somehow I prefer to complain about it every single day!

I get irritated when my sweetie makes his tea and puts the spoon on the counter BY the sink, not IN the sink but BY it. Grrrr. It always leaves a ring!

I know that its nice outside and I will be out there. I put sunscreen on my son and make sure to get the backs of his ears and the back of his neck. I remind him to grab a hat and bring a sweatshirt in case the weather changes. SO why is it that I am the one who comes home with the burn, more freckles on my nose, and freezing to death because I left my jacket at home? I sure can preach smart information but I have a devil of a time following my own advice. Not to mention he is ten now and that makes it officially ten years of doing this. Theres really not a good excuse for that.

I say I am going to cook something new, tired of the same old foods. Yet, I keep buying the same old foods. Sigh.

I will use a pen until it runs out of ink and NOT throw it away, but shove it back with the other pens. At least three times in that week I will reach for it, yell at it, scribble circles with it on paper until it makes a tear or hole, and then, throw it back in the pen container. As a writer, this is something that may require therapy.

I suggest we go rent a movie and then we spend half an hour at the video store disagreeing on everything only to come back home in a fight, no movie, and later in the evening we wished we would have chosen something.

Constantly I go to Walmart and tell myself I need new bath towels. That was a year ago. I still need them.

The one time I didnt check the blasted eggs at the store, I found three broken. Really, it only takes a second but I didnt want to waste the time. However, I spent two hours complaining about it. I dont get it!

When I buy a new book I somehow come home with the only copy that has a tear in it somewhere.

I have bought the same fabric softener forever and the one time they change the color on me and the logo, I had no clue, couldnt find a thing, searched those shelves for a very long time, you would think I would have known what it was called, but I only identified it by the logo and colors. After a month I found an old container in the house and pulled off the sticky stuff to bring with me, and believe it or not I have an awesome memory!

There are many more, just thought I would share a few. I have many times admitted to being a creature of habit but sometimes even I dont realize just how much of one I am. I literally put up with the same things I complain about instead of changing them. Of course, if someone else shared theirs with me, I have some great advice and preaching for you.
