An April's Fool Day
Apr. 1, 2003

Okay, while I can already guess my son is going to play a trick or two on me today, and my sweetheart is going to attempt to pull one off as well, though after dinner because he knows better, the weather was enough for me to know who got the best of me today.

It has finally hit spring here, well for one whole week anyways, long enough to melt the last of the snow-which hung around almost five full months. Now see, I was nice and caring and sweet, I moved from a nice warm climate state to be with my sweetheart after years of commuting back and forth. After all the rubble and nonsense going on at the airports, I lost my interest in flying quickly and decided to stop with the long distance 4,000+ miles between us and finally live together.

Where I lived there wasn't much more than one day of snow if any. Of course the year I am away there isn't even any frost in the mornings. So I moved somewhere that has five months of it. Silly me. I hope he understands the level of my devotion here, because I am sure questioning it. Though I only need to look at his face and remember why I am here, I don't miss the five hundred dollars a month phone bills, and I sure don't miss the airports. But I miss the beautiful weather and seeing green. all I have seen lately is white and then black snow because of all the dirt. Snow is pretty for a day, then it gets monotonous, then it is really ugly when it's black with all the street filth.

Anyhow, we have had a whole week of spring. Birds were out singing, the sky was blue with patches of fluffy white clouds. Finally I could don the big heavy coat, gloves, mittens, scarf, neck warmner, two layers of clothing, and boots. I charged outside with a light jacket and a big huge smile on my face. I felt rejuvenated. I saw actual lawns in front of people's homes. It was truly a sight for sore unhappy, verge of depression eyes.

Then today, April first, I receive the worst practical joke I could ever imagine. SNOW covering the ground. SNOW covering the lawn. SNOW and WHITE everywhere. It hurt let me tell you. I am sure other people from other countries and even some states are still having winter, and let me just say you are all troopers. I realize it isn't spring for everyone, but usually mine started in February and it is just a bit rough to see it April first.

So the joke is on me. Why did I move here I ask myself. The answer is easy. My heart led me here. Sigh. As much as I would love to hop back in bed and start all over again, I realize that will be just an ongoing joke and I won't feel any better. I'd rather look in my freezer and see ice and white stuff, not look out the window and wonder why the birds didn't wake me up with their song this morning. Hopefully this joke will melt by tonight.
