Mar 6, 2004 So there it is in the “New York Times”. Only 35 percent of black children graduate and less than a third of Latino students graduate from New York State public schools. Sixty-five percent of all black students in the state drop out of school before they can graduate and sixty-six percent of Latino students go. Why? New York State does not know how to educate children. New York State teachers and teacher’s unions are incompetent. There is no stress upon educational standards. There are no core curriculum values and no teacher accountability. There is no enforcement of truancy laws and regulations. Children are running the asylum and parents, teachers and government officials have given up. They still get their annual salary increases though and I bet the union still protects every one of those incompetent clods that dare call him or herself a New York State educator. There is no concerted effort to help these “drop out” children either. They all can’t be criminals and even if they were, they could still be getting an education from any juvenile detention facility. New York State isn’t the only place with these problems. Chicago, Illinois is looking at a steady 13% drop out rate. Chicago’s solution to this problem is to make sure that each drop-out co-signs a piece of paper with their parent(s). This piece of paper is a declaration of acknowledgement that the drop-out and the parent (s) understand the adverse effects of leaving school without a diploma. If the drop-out can read the paper in the first place, they come to realize they may be dedicating their life to a life of burger slinging or gas pumping. This paper also lets the Chicago Public School district off the hook for the child’s education. I am sure there will always be a chance for these children if they can get an audition with “American Idol” or the “Survivor Series”. NO! This is CRAP! What lets New York and Illinois get away with quitting on their responsibility to educate children? If it costs $9,000 a year per child to educate a child in a public school, I want to see Illinois and New York reimburse the Federal Treasury for every drop-out every year to the tune of $9,000 a head! Do you think we will ever see that kind of equity? Not ever! “No Child Left Behind” is supposed to mean just what it says. New York and Illinois do not care anymore. They are keeping the money and letting the children go! “Here Johnny, sign this piece of paper. Now, you Mom. So you understand you may now leave and we don’t have to feel responsible for you anymore. You’ve given up and we have let you. Bye-Bye now!” Sixty-five percent in New York State! Where’s Hillary! Where’s Rangel! Those two are so busy screaming about Haiti, they’ve forgotten their own back yard! Sixty-five percent in New York State! The Congressional Black Caucus should be having fits of crap! But, their crap-fits are about poor Mr. Aristide and his boondoggled democracy. What hypocrisy! What classless, diatribal, ineptitude! Look. We invaded Iraq and Afghanistan. Now, we are building schools and educating children in the where-with-alls of democracy. We are now invading (again) Haiti, where we will be forced by the diatribes of the Democrats to build schools and educate little Haitian children in the where-with-alls of liberalism, ummm, I mean, democracy. I think it is time we invade New York and Illinois so we might rebuild their schools, that little American children can start learning enough that they won’t be quitting before graduation! I forget where I heard or read this, but it was recent that someone said that a modern day High School education is no better than a 1950’s eighth-grade education, while a two year degree is almost equal to the tenth-grade. If that is true, then America is in very sad straights. It is no wonder jobs are being “outsourced” to places like India. The quality of education is leveling off around the world and America has lost its leadership position in many of the world’s educational disciplines. We will never regain preeminence with a sixty- five percent drop-out rate in any state.
