The Buchanan Slap!
Feb 26, 2004

I used to love watching “Crossfire” on CNN. Bill Press and Pat Buchanan always managed to keep me entertained. I stopped watching “Crossfire” immediately after Mr. Buchanan left the show to run for President. I did not pay much attention to Mr. Buchanan’s bid for the office. His views and positions did not appeal to me as a voter.

Pat Buchanan can sometimes be over-the-top with his brand of conservatism, but in his Townhall.com article “Time for a New Boston Tea Party” I could not help but think, AMEN! In the article Mr. Buchanan decries the “order” to the Massachusetts legislature by the State’s supreme court to “enact, in 180 days, a law giving homosexuals the right to marry.” His voice should not be the only one screaming about this court that has “usurped the power of the elected branches.” Mr. Buchanan recommends that the Governor and the legislature of the state “Slap the court down!”

Who holds the power here? It is time to “slap” activist courts away from making law or ordering laws to be made to support contrived ideas. Courts have the distinct mission of interpreting existing laws. The asinine Supreme Court of Massachusetts says it sees the “right” for homosexual marriage in the constitution of the state; or that they see nothing expressly prohibiting it. Well, that should be a ruling then, right? But, it was not a ruling. This court overstepped itself in “ordering” the state legislature to “enact a law” to support their assumption of this “right”.

Mr. Buchanan warns in his article, “The more stupid, arrogant and oppressive a regime becomes, the more the people turn to revolution to be rid of it.” Activist courts are overturning the will of the voters on both the left and the right. The historical essence of “Marriage” is that union between a man and a woman. Courts are now trying to redefine “marriage” into whatever type of relationship involves love and dedication of any sort or duration. HEY! When I was ten I wanted to marry my thirteen-year-old sister. I was really in love with her too! Can I? Please, can I? Can I? Well, according to the Massachusetts Supreme court, I probably could.

Mr. Buchanan well noted, “In a half century, we have watched judges and justices arbitrarily strike down laws against pornography, denying communities the power to prevent the pollution of culture. We have seen the killing of unborn children declared a constitutional right. We have seen children forcibly bussed across cities to meet some jurist’s idea of what is the proper racial balance.” We have also seen judges declare the nation’s Pledge of Allegiance, unconstitutional. High School teens cannot pray before sports contests or graduation ceremonies. Teachers cannot teach creationism above evolution and sodomy is now a constitutionally protected right. What an indictment against judicial stupidity!

I have to agree that it is time to start slapping activist judges and courts down. They have been going well outside their job descriptions, and, you may have noticed, the most activist of the bunch have been those appointed by the demic-rat branch of the demic-rat party. That is really not a revelation; just an observation.
