Oct 16, 2003 Cal Thomas, in an article entitled: "Who gets to make the rules?" (Townhall.com), related this from an Episcopalian friend: "If you're a heterosexual clergyman and you are having sex outside of marriage, you can be expelled. But if you're a homosexual clergyman having sex outside of marriage, they rejoice." By now, we've all read about Gene Robinson. He is the Episcopal clergyman who has been living with a male "significant other" for the past thirteen years. If you missed the article by Mr. Thomas, you missed this: "If Scripture is to be circumvented in the matter of homosexuality and not disqualify one who seeks the office of bishop, what about divorce?" It turns out Mr. Robinson, "left his wife and two children to take up with a man." Bishop Frank Griswold, who presided over Mr. Robinson's confirmation proceeding voted to confirm Mr. Robinson because, (quoting a 30 September FOX News article) "Episcopalians in New Hampshire had overwhelmingly chosen him in their local election and had the right to make that choice." The article also cites Griswold as saying, "that scripture does not condemn same-sex relationships." It seems Bishop Griswold did not read Mr. Thomas' article either. Had he done so, he would have found all the scripture necessary to condemn the actions of Mr. Robinson. I would have added these two passages however. "Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination." (Lev.18:22), and " If a man also lie with mankind as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them." (Lev.20:13) The people of New Hampshire who agree with Bishops Griswold and Robinson have not been taught their scriptures. This is an act of religious irresponsibility. To fail to instruct the tenants of God's holy word to your congregants is malpractice of the highest plane. Is the Bible the Word of God? From the time God placed the 10 Commandments on the tablets of stone, the prophets and apostles of God have insisted that every word of scripture was "God breathed". Those who have agreed with the prophets and the apostles have been at odds with unbelievers ever since the compilation of Constantine's bible back in the 3rd Century A.D. Men were martyred for centuries for trying to bring the Word of God among the common people. To understand God became the chief goal of generations of the devout and moral. Civilizations not holding the Hebrew/Christian representation of God's Word were shown to be morally corrupt dictatorships, responsible for the murders of millions, as Fascist Germany, Communist China, the Soviet Union, and Radical Islam. Historically, when an empire allowed its moral base to decay, all other aspects of society collapsed until, eventually, the empire died. Homosexuality has its historical part in these moral corruptions. (Wake up America!) This gay bishop will be the cause of a major split in the Episcopal Church. I am certain Mr. Robinson will not recant his sin and admit his sexual lust has overridden any desire to truly serve the God of his own Bible. The world will no doubt consider Mr. Robinson a bold, daring individual, fighting a righteous fight on a par with Martin Luther and his dispute with Roman Catholicism. But Christians, that is, true Christians who hold to the truth that God really did write the Hebrew/Christian Bible will see that Mr. Robinson is, of that same truth, a sinner in need of salvation. He is not a good bishop. The Apostle Paul once told his charge Timothy, that a good bishop was "the husband of one wife". He is certainly not a spiritual leader. Paul also explained to Timothy that a bishop who could not control his own household, had no right to the position of control over the household of God. Mr. Robinson didn't just leave his wife. He left his God. ------------ About the Author: Independent, Conservative, Christian.
