I Have Been Happy To See Lately...
Feb 17, 2004

FLORIDA: The state government voted to continue to ban adoptions to “gay” people. Florida has determined that the proper family consists of children having both a mother and a father, preferably of opposing heterosexual gender. As Martha Steward might say, “That is a good thing.”

OHIO: The state government of Ohio has rejected equalizing same-sex unions, and unions between heterosexual singles with that of married couples. They have voted to ensure the benefits of marriage are not equally distributed to people who are basically not committed to lasting relationships. This should cut down on the number of frivolous palimony lawsuits within the state.

ALASKA: Will be opening 8.8 million acres of wilderness to industrial development of energy resources. This could become a trial example for the opening of all of ANWAR if it can be proven that geese and caribou really could care less about environmentally safe pipelines running through their frozen tundra. Here’s a conundrum: Environmentalists are concerned about the impact on wildlife, and the impact on the hunting and fishing of the Eskimo population. So, let me try to understand this. We only want Eskimos killing the geese and the caribou, right? Anyway, this is a good thing too.

WASHINGTON, D.C.: Another experiment the demic- rats are dreading is the approval of a voucher program for the D.C. public school system. The demic-rats have been fighting that like crazy and have even started a recall petition against Democrat Mayor Williams who is pushing the program. If vouchers succeed in Washington, D.C., this will speak very well for a National Voucher System.

AUSTRAILIA: Steve (Crocodile Hunter) Irwin will not be prosecuted for his recent stupidity. He could easily have confused his baby with the piece of meat he was feeding a crocodile, but, fortunately, he was not THAT stupid.

JAPAN: I understand Japan wants to reduce some of the money it is throwing away to support the U.N. Japan spends 263 million a year in U.N. support. The U.S. is the largest supporter of U.N. operations at 300 million a year. It is time to spread the wealth (or the debt). I believe America and Japan should both reduce the size of their “contributions” to 100 million a year. If the diplomats want a raise, they can ask Russia, China, France and Germany to pony up some extra cash.

CHARLESTON, SC: I see we are going to keep our “dirty bomber” under wraps for a while yet. Why does everyone automatically assume we should cut terrorists a break because they happen to be, in some way, shape or form, American citizens? A terrorist is a killer. Killers disserve death. I don’t care what country any terrorist belongs to. If the person is a terrorist, they are welcome to dine in hell. Mr. Padilla can remain behind bars forever. He means harm if he is released.

MARS: When our Mars rovers have been up and running, they’ve been sending back all kinds of great pictures and data. I feel like I’m really there. I did notice that none of the locals have been in a hurry for their close-ups. Oh, well. We have plenty of company from the European Union and Japan too. Water molecules have been found. That’s cool.

So there are still some things that can make us feel like mankind is not on the verge of total destruction. There are still sports pages and the local news stories that prove daily, that the more things seem to change, the more they really remain the same. There is just one more thing though:

SAMOA: “Samoa abolishes capital punishment” The Prime Minister of Samoa said that he noted that capital punishment had failed to deter murders in Samoa. Here was a law for capital punishment, of course, the last time anyone was executed under that law was 52 years ago. The Prime Minister could not understand why murders was still being committed, after all, there was a law against murder. No. We weren’t executing any murderers, but, we still had this law. So, since the law was not deterring murders, we would just abolish the law then. DUMB..DEE..DUMB, DUMB! DUMB..DEE..DUMB, DUMB..DUMMMMMMMMMMMMBBBB!
