ARGH! AND DOUBLE ARGH!!
Feb 6, 2004

I read another one. This is becoming a daily occurrence. It is like “déjà vu all over again”. This latest investigation (What? 5 now!) of Vice President Dick Cheney’s former company, Halliburton, into overcharges on a particular contract that was actually theft by two employees (not related to the VP) to enhance their personal lifestyles.

Halliburton, Vice President Dick Cheney’s former company has promised to repay the stolen money. In fact, they had promised to repay the money before the Pentagon was pressured into another investigation. But, of course, Mr. Patrick (Stonewall) Leahey and Mr. Charles (Lapdog) Schummer would prefer Vice President Dick Cheney’s head on a platter. Oh! Did I mention Halliburton was Vice President Dick Cheney’s former company?

I wish Halliburton, Vice President Dick Cheney’s former company would just stop bidding on government contracts. I wish Vice President Dick Cheney’s former company, Halliburton, would stop being so efficient in the cost saving work it does so it could not afford to continue to underbid its competition. Can you imagine the stink if the government 1) disallowed bids from Vice President Dick Cheney’s former company, Halliburton? or 2) if a company with a much higher bid were selected for a contract over the lower bid of Halliburton, Vice President Dick Cheney’s former company? I think “TIME” magazine might begin its own investigation to try to find out who was trying to keep Halliburton, Vice President Dick Cheney’s former company off the front pages of American media during an election year. Do I detect a conspiracy here?

There is one other person who should be really upset over this entire fiasco concerning Vice President Dick Cheney’s former company, Halliburton. That would be the current owner of Halliburton, Vice President Dick Cheney’s former company. Who is that guy? Who is the guy that is causing all these problems for Vice President Dick Cheney’s former company, Halliburton? I never hear his name; read about him in the paper; or see any picture of him. Whenever a picture is published with any of these stories, (like the one accompanying the article that started this column) it is a picture of Vice President Dick Cheney, former owner of Halliburton. Can I please be told who the new guy is? I want to write him a letter and tell him to SPEAK UP! Whoever this guy is, he’s missing out on his fifteen minutes of fame. I have a bet that it is Willie Jeff, or James Carville, or Terry MacAullif (sp) or Al Frankin that now own Vice President Dick Cheney’s former company, Halliburton. It can’t possibly be a prominent Republican or his name, his address, his telephone number, his laptop IP Address and his boxer or brief preference would have been splashed all over the wires of the AP and UPI months ago.

I wrote before, that even should Halliburton, Vice President Dick Cheney’s former company, change its name, it would still forever be Vice President Dick Cheney’s former company. Name changing is not an option. Halliburton, Vice President Dick Cheney’s former company should find a new line of work, or just stop competing for government contracts until their former owner is no longer Vice President of the United States. Perhaps even that will not work. I can imagine the AP articles then beginning with, “Former Vice President Dick Cheney’s former company, Halliburton…” on into infinity.

But this whole new meaning in adjectival intervention started well before May 1, 2003, when President Bush declared an end to major combat operations in Iraq, and will continue well beyond May 1, 2003 when President Bush declared an end to major combat operations in Iraq. So Vice President Dick Cheney’s former company Halliburton’s new owner, whoever the guy is, will just have to “suck it up” like the rest of us and deal with it. ARGH! And double ARGH!
