Feb 5, 2004 The first issue addressed by President Bush in his State of the Union report to Congress was the issue of America’s “responsibilities” in domestic and world affairs. America understands “responsibility”. That is why we have soldiers attacking and killing terrorists the world over. That is why the Department of Homeland Security is permitted to plan and execute programs to enhance domestic security. That is why our President would promise the military every possible means of support from the government to get the job done. Yes, America understands responsibility. This government, led by our President also understands what it means to become complacent. It is too easy to forget 3000 dead Americans. It is more politically convenient to harp about the 500 American soldiers that have been killed in Iraq, or the 100 other soldiers that have been killed in Afghanistan, and then call for a retreat from our enemies, as we retreated from Somalia, Yemen and Lebanon. Retreat is not an option anymore. We backed up so far during the previous administration that the terrorists were able to wreck havoc within America proper. That should never again be allowed to happen. Taking the war to the front porch of the bad guys is exactly correct. It is something they understand. They started this thing. We will find a way to end it. This is what I heard from my President, our Commander-In-Chief. I could not help but notice the joy of the demic- rat side of the chamber when our President spoke of the nearness of the expiration date of the “Patriot Act”; and again when he spoke of the coming expiration dates of the marriage penalty tax cut, the death tax cut, general tax cuts on capital gains and tax credits for children. This was actual glee being displayed that they had been able to make these important pieces of legislation temporary. When the President then called upon those in the chamber to make the protective measures of the Patriot Act permanent, he was hissed at. When the President called for making the tax cuts that were now spurring incredible economic growth and recovery permanent, he was booed by the demic-rats. I understand reasonable debate and dissention, but the Patriot Act keeps America safe and the tax cuts have proven themselves a boon to the economy. How can anyone hiss or boo at progress? Oh! That’s right! I forgot. These are two “Republican” programs that “actually” WORK! There are two programs that “actually” HELP! These are two programs that “actually” PROTECT! I do understand now why the “Party of Rhetoric Without Action” would disapprove. What a joy it was for me to witness the CNBC cutaway shots of Charles Rangel sleeping; Teddy Kennedy shaking his head “NO” over and over; and Ms. H.R. Clinton frowning until she realized a camera was on her. When our President spoke against those who continually invoke the “unilateral actions of America” and our “go-it-alone-ism”, and our unwillingness to “work with the international community”, I had to laugh against those idiotic ideas when Mr. Bush began running the list of countries that are now helping us in Iraq and worldwide against our enemies. Then I had to agree. Those cruds that speak of unilateralism indeed dismiss the recent sacrifices of Britain, Australia, Italy and the 60 other support nations. These people ignore these countries as meaningless and we cannot explain that to them. We can only apologize for the ignorance and rudeness, the arrogance and the insufferable elitism of fools. “America does not need a permission slip” from the likes of anyone to protect America; especially Russia, China, Germany, France or the U.N or the Democrat Side of the U.S. Senate that insists this must be the way to do things. Ah! But I would be remiss if I did not give the demic-rat response its due. Ms. Pelosi did not disappoint me when she referred to President Bush’s “go-it-alone” doctrine of pre-emptive war. She said what was needed was a “TRUE international coalition” because America has borne the brunt of “ALL” the casualties in Iraq. Now, we have to explain that statement to Britain, Australia and Italy! She said because of America’s “diplomatic disengagement” we were struggling. She said we had to “work together with our allies” and not give contracts to just “Halliburton” and blah blah blah! Nancy did not read Rich Lowry’s book I guess. As for Senator Tom Daschle’s part of the response, we have to end the “tax cuts for the rich” and the “tax breaks for the companies that export jobs”. He is concerned that Bush’s 1.7 trillion in cuts over the 12 year cycle of the entire plan will create massive enough deficits that Congress won’t be able to justify their next round of salary increases. During that same 12 year cycle the federal government will collect and spend 28 trillion dollars off the backs of the American taxpayer. Let’s see, 28 minus 1.7 is still 26.3 trillion that Congress gets to “pork” away. Finally, CNBC, (remember, I hate CNN and I don’t have FOX available in this hotel, to their shame) conducted an interview with Mr. Charles (Sleepyhead) Rangel. I guess the new demic-rat talking point is “500 dead Americans”. I bet the liberals couldn’t wait until we got to “500 dead Americans” so they might actually achieve a talking point. Old Charley didn’t let me down either. “Osama was taken off the hit list in preference to Saddam.” and “Saddam still hasn’t been connected to al Qaeda” were two sentences that shows me Charley sleeps through most of his National Security briefings too. CNBC did throw me two curveballs. Dennis Miller was allowed to say how much “sense” President made in the content of the speech and that Bush would get his vote. Then there was Don Baer? CNBC managed to scrape up a former Clinton speechwriter to critique President Bush’s State of the Union. Old Don suggested Bush “missed the mark” in comparison to YOU GUESSED IT! WILLIE JEFF! He also suggested there were no important “values” spoken of, apparently having fallen asleep during the parts concerning the ongoing war against drugs and the need to expand faith based initiatives. I am proud of our President. He is not going to take much more crap from liberals. I would not be surprised to see some “activist” judges face impeachment proceedings either. The recent Pickering “recess” appointment and this in-your- face State of the Union tells me we are in for a delicious political season. I am not concerned about the State of America’s union. God bless our President as he fights a war on behalf of all Americans and “God continue to bless America.” ------------ About the Author: Independent, Conservative, Christian.
