Jan 19, 2004 Never mind that the City of San Diego, CA, gave up trying to defend what is right against the ACLU’s attack on the Boy Scouts of America’s (BSA) rights under the United States Constitution to freedom of association and freedom of speech. Never mind that the ACLU has extorted an additional million dollars in fraudulent settlement money to fight against the morals of an organization that existed long before liberal courts took their place as the destroyers of religious based freedoms. Never mind that the Boy Scouts have had two more of their campgrounds stolen from them in the name of “tolerance for sexual diversity”. Never mind this spiteful and evil comment: “Organizations such as the scouts that hang on to these kinds of discriminatory membership practices are increasingly out of step with the world we live in and they’re being passed by,” said Jordan Budd, legal director of the ACLU’s local chapter. But the ACLU is suing anyway to allow atheists and gays into this “out of step” and “being passed by” organization why; to make it a “better” organization by letting the godless and sexually perverse into its leadership positions? That makes absolutely no freaking sense whatsoever! “On my honor” means, I am giving my word. “I will do my best” means, to live up to this oath against peer pressure and a lowering of my personal standards. “To do my duty to God” means, first that I believe in a God and secondly that I will follow the wisdoms and teachings of my God and my religious faith. “And my country” means, for American scouts, learning about our system of government and the responsibilities inherited towards its improvement and protection. “And to obey the Scout Law” means, that this oath will bind me to understand and follow the tenants of a law that will make me a more valuable member of society as a whole. “To help other people at all times” means that no one is excluded from help from the BSA, including atheists and homosexuals that need help. “To keep myself physically strong” means, that a scout will always practice good hygiene and suffer no vices. “Mentally awake” means, that a scout will always be actively learning and trying for the best grades possible in school. “And morally straight” means, that a scout will strive to develop a strong character to be honest and respect and defend the rights of all people to be clean in speech and faithful to his religious convictions and virtues. That is the Scout Oath and it places duty to God, Country, Family and others ahead of self. These are hallmarks of a scout. These are not the hallmarks of the godless or the sexually self- serving. The following is the Scout Law that the ACLU would have the BSA abandon in the name of “anti-discrimination”. “A Scout is Trustworthy” meaning people can depend on him. “A Scout is Loyal” meaning he is true to friends, family, nation and faith. “A Scout is Helpful” meaning he volunteers without expecting payment or reward. “A Scout is Friendly” meaning a scout extends friendship and respect to all. “A Scout is Courteous” meaning that even in the face of verbal attacks a scout would remain polite. “A Scout is Kind” meaning he will be gentle in dealing with everyone. “A Scout is Obedient” meaning he will obey his elders, his parents, the rules and laws of his country, and the rules and laws of his religious faith. “A Scout is Cheerful” meaning he will always know a smile will beget a smile in return. “A Scout is Thrifty” meaning he will protect the environment and conserve resources for the future. “A Scout is Brave” meaning he will stand up to defend others in the face of danger. “A Scout is Clean” meaning he will always keep his mind and body tuned in the highest physical and moral standards. “A Scout is Reverent” meaning he is faithful to the tenants of his religious faith and respectful of all other religious beliefs. It would have been a wise thing to perhaps search out the Mission and Vision Statements of the BSA before trying to enroll little Johnny or Joe. A little research would have told the parents of little Johnny or Joe that if they preferred atheism or homosexuality and did not want little Johnny or Joe to be taught morality and cleanliness then it would be much better to enroll little Johnny or Joe in the Atheist Scouts of America (ASA), or the ACLU Scouts of America (ACLUSA). The BSA may not be a religious organization, but it is a private organization with multiple religious traditions (like giving thanks in the form of a prayer before meals) and a high respect for all religions. Atheists have no respect for any religion and do not belong in the BSA. In BSA vs. Dale, June 2000, the United States Supreme Court overturned the Supreme Court of the State of New Jersey, saying basically that the BSA has always remained consistent in its declaration that homosexuality is incompatible with the rules and laws of scouting. The decision was based in the First Amendment of the Constitution. Apparently the ACLU holds the Supreme Court of the United States in such contempt that they will continue to attack the BSA, forcing it to use valuable monetary resources in court battles. This will force limitations on dollars used to maintain BSA facilities and programs like the annual BSA Food Drive for the needy. The ACLU hopes to wear down the BSA into accepting the unnatural, unhealthy and ungodly to get “in step” with the rest of the world. Thank God for the United States Supreme Court circa 2000. The BSA vs. Dale decision must remain the standard. The concluding paragraph of that court decision reads: "We are not, as we must not be, guided by our views of whether the Boy Scouts’ teachings with respect to homosexual conduct are right or wrong; public or judicial disapproval of a tenet of an organization’s expression does not justify the State’s effort to compel the organization to accept members where such acceptance would derogate from the organization’s expressive message. “While the law is free to promote all sorts of conduct in place of harmful behavior, it is not free to interfere with speech for no better reason than promoting an approved message or discouraging a disfavored one, however enlightened either purpose may strike the government.” Hurley, 515 U.S., at 579. The judgment of the New Jersey Supreme Court is reversed, and the cause remanded for further proceedings not inconsistent with this opinion. It is so ordered" Two of my sons spent several years in scouting. I was both an Assistant Scoutmaster and Scoutmaster for a church affiliated troop. I know first hand the incompatibility between the Scout Oath, Law and the manifesto of atheism. The City of San Diego gave in to the ACLU because money was more important than morality. I will pray the BSA will take every suit similar to this one to the nation’s highest court every time. Then I will pray that the court maintains the First Amendment stance of BSA vs. Dale. ------------ About the Author: Independent, Conservative, Christian.
