Dean’s Speech – Some Lies and Half Truths
Dec 26, 2003

Old Howie couldn’t get past his first sentence without speaking his first lie to the Pacific Council, Tuesday 16, December. “The past year, our campaign has gathered strength by offering leadership and ideas and also by listening to the American People.”

No.

Mr. Dean is not leading. He is ranting. His constituency is the leftmost of the left with a few exceptions. He is gaining important endorsements from the likes of Al Gore, who will be able to scrape up some illegal Chinese campaign contributors for him. He has also raised more money than any other demic-rat candidate, probably because he is the loudest and the most mean of the entire field.

Dean’s major address does show us he has two main ideas that spotlight his bid for the Presidency. (1) To end our participation in the War against Terrorism by retreating in favor of United Nations force intervention and (2) Raise taxes by completely eliminating the Bush Tax Cuts that have been stimulating the recent across-the-board economic improvements we’ve been watching lately. He has not been listening to the American people. The Real Americans are telling him to shut up. He only listens to his radical constituency. I want my taxes CUT! Dean doesn’t care about that.

Dean said: “The difficulties and tragedies we have faced in Iraq show that the administration launched the war in the wrong way, at the wrong time, with inadequate planning, insufficient help, and at unbelievable cost.”

No.

The “difficulties and tragedies” we now face in Iraq are a result of War. We are fighting a global war of which Iraq is only one battle. We “launched” the war the day after radical Islam declared war on our country on September 11th. This was the correct and proper response, not, as Dean suggests, “the wrong way” and “the wrong time”. The Battle of Iraq was not conducted with “inadequate planning” or “insufficient help”. We began planning the battle of Iraq 14 months prior to the first artillery shell by first working with the UN through their multiple inadequate and un-enforced resolutions; a resumption of a failed inspections program under a group of political blowhards led by Hans Blix, that allowed Hussein to dictate inspection schedules. And finally culminating in an incredible round of diplomacy to weed out the obstructionist nations and assemble a coalition of nations who were willing to support the ouster of a murderer and threat to world stability. And cost? The one “unbelievable” thing about the cost was that Saddam’s Army was so ineffective we lost fewer than 200 soldiers in direct major combat operations. The cowards we were after retreated to their fall back plans of terror and insurgency, and now, with Saddam’s capture, have shown themselves failures at protecting their vaunted murderous leader. A great victory very unappreciated by the radical political left led by you, Mr. Dean.

If Mr. Dean was talking monetary cost, then he was showing an amazing lack of concern for the soldiers that did lose their lives and still have their lives on the line. I will assume Dean’s “cost” concern was a reference to lives and not money. Dean also has to understand Iraq is only one battle, like New York was one battle, like Afghanistan was one battle, and there will be battles in Turkey, Kenya, Saudi Arabia, Syria ns Iran. Wherever terrorists hang their turbans. President Bush has already promised to take the war to the enemy in their lairs. Great Britain, Australia, Spain, and Italy among others have pledged their assistance in these battles. Our coalition is not weak, but valiant and very capable to complete the task accepted.

Dean said: “As President I will work to narrow the now-widening gap between rich and poor. Right now, the United States officially contributes a smaller percentage of its wealth to helping other nations develop than any other industrialized country?” WHAT!? WHAT!!? It may be true that America gives only 10% of its GNP toward foreign development. America’s 10% is still more than France’s 41% in real dollar value. Dean must get real here. We are already using a disproportionate share of the budget on domestic welfare programs. Dean wants welfare extended well beyond American shores. The UN was given responsibility to establish assistance goals for developing nations. None of the G7 nations were able to meet the UN assistance targets. America however, spent more than any other G7 nation in real dollar value. Dean says: “Targeted and effective expansion of investment, assistance, trade and debt relief in developing nations can improve the climate for peace and democracy and undermine the recruiters for terrorist plots.”

This is all rhetorical. There are no specifics. All nations of the world already come to America for investment, trade and debt relief. Dean believes, as his speech shows, if we give more of the GNP away as gifts of assistance, the nations that receive these gifts will love us so much they will give up terrorism and support democracy. Dean proves he does not have a full and realistic view of the world. He does have that “feel your pain” mentality though. Right now all demic-rats are yelling about aid we are giving Iraq when our own children starve and our public schools crumble. Dean wants to give even more away and I don’t hear one peep out of Pelosi or Daschle

I am not impressed. I still want my taxes cut.
