Michael John McCrae

Sad-Man Insane
Dec 22, 2003

When my plane landed in Philadelphia Sunday morning, the shuttle driver taking me back to New Jersey asked me: "Have you heard the news?" I assured him that I had not heard much of anything since leaving on the redeye out of LAX at 10 P.M. the previous evening. Then came his excited exclamation: "We captured Hussein, alive!"

First reaction? Wow! That was the best possible news to come home to. I could not wait to get home and turn on Fox News Channel to get the up- to-date and "fair and balanced" reporting of this historic event.

First thought? Oh No! I wonder if the ACLU or Mark Garrigos (sp)have heard about this yet? Hussein is alive. That means lawyers who need a name for themselves are climbing over each other and lining up possible defenses to market to the Baath Party.

First concern? We had better leave Hussein in Iraq. Let the Iraqis have him. We can guard him and protect him, but we should be certain that when Iraq is ready to put him to death we just go ahead and let them do their thing.

I turned on Fox News at 7:30 A.M. and was in time for the first words of the news conference: "WE GOT HIM!" Man! I couldn't believe the joy, the pride and the excitement those words generated in me. "WE GOT HIM!" Amen! Right On! (Sorry, child of the 60's slip there.) Hallelujah!

Then General Sanchez began his portion of the news conference and I saw the pictures. Shades of Santa Anna being pulled out of a Texas well. Shades of Adolph Hitler being holed up in a deep Berlin bunker. Shades of Osama Bin Butthead in his own Afghani holes without windows. Only shades though. The mess I was looking at was certainly not the bold, defiant, courageous leader of the vaunted Baath dictatorship! I was looking at a scared little rat who had been dragged out of its earthen hole to face the mean old lab technician with the needle in his hand.

I saw fear in that scraggly, bearded mug. I saw compliance. I saw uncertainty and maybe some suprise. This hero of the 99% popular vote of the people. This worshipped one of a million photographs, paintings and statues. This "cowardly lion" looking fool who had to be dragged out of a hole in the ground without a fight.

To all you Palestinians who were beguiled by this coward into strapping bombs on your sons and daughters and collecting your Baathist blood money, now you see this coward was even too afraid to fight it out to his own martyrdom. To all you Arabs who trusted in the power and authority of this dictator to maintain your own personal power and wealth, I say you face this same inglorious end. To the French and the Germans and all the nations who used this evil scumbag to build your own empires of profit while ignoring his terror and his starvation of babies and his filling of mass graves, I say if you want a contract now, you may have the contract to make the headstones for the people you supported to their deaths.

Now, Hussein should be pumped for any information he is willing to give up. We should not waste much time with that though. He should be turned over as soon as possible to the people of Iraq. Allow them to conduct the same ceremony we watched them conduct on that one Baghdad statue, ripping off its head and dragging it through the streets. Let us give the Iraqis some "closure" shall we?

Don't bring that sorry, sad man to America. The ACLU is just itching for a chance to defend him as a victim of American Colonialism. Don't give him to the World Court or the U.N. either. Neither would condemn him to death and both would allow appeals into eternity. Mark Garrigos (sp)or Johnnie Cocoran (sp) would use the insanity defense or try to find a pair of gloves that did not fit Hussein's hands. No. I trust the Iraqis to do the right thing.

Thank you soldiers, investigators, CIA Agents and everyone who participated in this great capture. Thank you Mr. President for your patience and your continued super support of the military and the intelligence community in the face of continual criticism from the left. God Bless America in her continued war against terror.
