Nov 18, 2003 I see things are now blowing up in Saudi Arabia. More innocent civilians killed by Jihadist cowards. Perhaps now we may begin hearing the proper amount of condemnation of the more radical elements of the Muslim world. One school here in Hawaii is having to face sexual misconduct among 14 and 15 year olds and "vow to do what they can to steer students toward better behavior." I have a couple of suggestions for that. A disabled person and her lawyer are running a racket, perfectly legal, suing small businesses for non-compliance with federal ADA regulations regarding the handicapped. 49 suits so far and counting. They settle the bulk of the suits out of court. The law permits the plaintif $1000 in each case for relief of grief, or something like that. Of course, Mr. Lawyer gets his cut. Al-Qaida is sending the bulk of its Jihadists to Iraq I see. That's good. Let's get all those rotten eggs in one basket. Bin Laden is quoted in his last diatribe: "God knows, if I could find a way to your field I wouldn't stall..." I say, let's open up a road and see if he's got the guts to pay off on that promise! "Dean turns down taxpayer money" This is a headline? It isn't until paragraph 4 that we read about President Bush, long ago saying he would not use taxpayer money to campaign, exactly like he did in 2000. "Liberals make Dean their 'great white hope', is the other large headline on the page. The article describes Dean's cockiness and arrogance as major contributors to his rise as a political star. Words like "brash" and "nervy" pepper the article. But the one description of Dean that bothers me is "adulation junkie". Just what I need, another "adulation junkie" like the last demic-rat to hold a presidential vacancy for a REAL President. What will happen to Vida Samadzai, the young Afgan woman who wore a bikini in the recent world beauty pageant? Well, she was honored with the first ever, "Beauty for a Cause" award. She has already been condemned by her new Afgani government. The Supreme Court of Afganistan has declared her participation in beauty pageants un- islamic. We have all seen what happens to the un- islamic in islamic countries. The headline? "Afgan pageant contestant could be arrested" Don't go home Vida. "Congo women suffer lasting scars of gang rapes" This was a half page news story on the atrocities being committed against Congolese women and how 3.5 million people have been killed in the Congo over a 5 year period. Where the heck is the world outcry over this? The story was very descriptive. It made me sad. I am angry too that there are no advocates for these people. "CIA lists N. Korea as a nuclear country" DUH! YA THINK!? The article tells me a country isn't normally considered "nuclear" until they've tested a bomb. I'm just wondering which city the N. Koreans were going to be allowed to test on before attaining "nuclear" status? "Bush credits tax cuts in economy's recovery" Well, that may be a little premature, but it does need a good hard sell since every single demic- rat presidential wannabe is admitting they would first cancel, recover, and withdraw all Bush's done and potential tax cuts to save an economy that currently seems to be recovering quite nicely, thank you. "Democrats criticize treatment of veterans" This entire article tells me Bush is "cutting" every benefit known to veterans. Now, we, the smart people, all know this never happens. Demic-rats propose massive increases while Republicans pass modest increases. The bottom line is? There is always an increase. Also, as I recall, since I was serving at the time; it was the Clinton administration that took away free health benefits for all the military on active duty and put us under Tri-Care, which I had to pay for out of my modest military income. "Split widens within Episcopal Church" I hate to say I told anyone so. Pittsburgh is upset. Fort Worth, Texas passed a resolution of repudiation against the Robinson consecration. Nope. We haven't heard the end of this one. "Arafat prevails on security, Cabinnet issues" Was there any doubt that as long as Arafat is alive he will continue to impede all attempts at a peaceful solution to the problems between Israel and the Palestinian Authority? "Iran reaffirms nuclear program pledges" If Iran is being truthful in this: "Iran is determined to make sure the international community is assured of the peaceful nature of its (nuclear) programs." Then this article is the one bright spot in an otherwise gloomy set of Sunday headlines, because "Violence still plagues Liberia four months after peace accord" The U.N is there, but people are still being killed every day. The above are Sunday's headlines from the first 22 pages of the local paper here in Hawaii. Besides one out of place music review, the weather report on page 4, and the upbeat articles on tax relief and Iran, there was no other good news. That's just sad.
