Sept. 10, 2004 Ah, numbers! Numbers are wonderful things we use every day for just about everything we do. There have been some numbers tossed around the last few days that are both terrible and interesting to think about. In the “See I Told You So” Department: The number 1000 has been teleported into vast prominence this week. The media has made sure we had the face, the name, the familial record and the ATM pin number of the 1000th soldier killed in Iraq. A quick “Google” search brought me two and one quarter million possibilities. That’s too much even for me to read. Digressing for a moment; I remember the first “Austin Powers” movie. Dr. Evil, fresh out of a frozen sleep went back to his old evil ways attempting to blackmail the world. He stands before the teleconference camera to tell a room full of world leaders he would destroy the planet unless he is given the sum of “ONE MILLION DOLLARS”. When he is laughed at, he must quickly consult with his evil companions and Dr. Evil returns to demand “ONE HUNDRED BILLION DOLLARS”. The laughter of the world leaders stops. Now I am remembering the liberal democrat Charles Rangel going around trying to push a liberal talking point about 500 dead soldiers in Iraq. That’s 500 dead, etc. Charles wasn’t laughed at, but nobody paid much attention to the number 500 either; so the liberals consulted with their media allies; biding their time; saying nothing of 600, 700, 800 or 900. No; those weren’t magic numbers either. But 1000; there’s a magic number with which to bash the President mercilessly into retreat and dishonor. How about these numbers? 3000; the number of dead Americans on the streets of America on September 11th, 2001; or 5; the number of dead Americans from the Anthrax attack of October 2001; or 30; the number of Israelis killed when Hamas sent a homicide killer into a Passover celebration of March 2002; or 21; the number killed in Tunisia by a truck bomb set off near a synagogue April 2002; or 202; the number of Australian dead from a pair of bombs set off in nightclubs in Bali in October 2002; or 130; the number of dead Russian citizens from a hostage standoff with Chechen Islamists in October 2002; or 13; the number killed in Kenya by a Muslim homicide killer in November 2002; or 34; mostly westerners from a Muslim car bomb in Saudi Arabia in May 2003; or 24; westerners killed at random on streets in Morocco in May 2003; or 24; the number of UN personnel killed by a Muslim bomb in Baghdad August 2003; or 60; dead in the British consulate and various Jewish synagogues in Istanbul, Turkey November 2003; or 185; killed in Baghdad by a series of Muslim homicide killers March 2004; or 225; the number of Spaniards killed by terrorist explosions on commuter trains March 2004: or just this week, more than 300 dead in a terrible Islamic attack against a school full of children. Let’s talk of retreat, shall we? The other number Mr. Kerry was tossing around over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and well, you get the idea; was the number 200 Billion; the cost of the war against terror. Now, do I care how much money is spent to protect Americans from being killed in the streets of America? No. I don’t care if it takes every penny of the 485 Billion dollars Congress gave itself for pork projects and another “BYRD” building. I don’t care. Americans are entitled to protection. The oath of office the President takes; the oath sworn by every soldier; is an oath to protect and defend this country from ALL enemies, foreign and domestic. So Iran, Syria, North Korea and anyone else who wants to destroy the American way of life had better watch out. And I don’t care how much has to be spent to do that. Oh, and when the Congress gives up its pork, I’ll give back my tax cut. Until I see some spending cuts other than against the budgets of defense and intelligence, I’m not giving any more of my money to the liberal thieves in Congress. With all numbers you need perspective. George Soros accumulated 60 million dollars to distribute to anti-Bush 527 organizations. The result of all that hate is that President Bush leads in the latest polls. The Swift Boat Veterans for Truth raised and spent less than two million dollars on their private 527 organization. The result of all that truth telling was Mr. Kerry falling even further behind in the polls. Which group is getting the bigger bang for the buck? Which group are the liberals trying to censor? I want the politicians and the population to butt out and let the Army and the Marines fight the war they are capable of fighting. The idea of a “sensitive” war is asinine. You fight war to kill enough of your enemies that they never bother you again. Until every country takes a stake in peace there will be no peace. Russia found that out the hard way. If America backs up at all, the next school blown to hell will be an American school. Remember Oklahoma City! Remember the WTO! And don’t you dare let your guard down thinking it can’t happen again. Islamic-fascism is a religion of perpetual hatred and revenge. The world is thick with the lovers of jihad. ------------ About the Author: Michael John McCrae is an Independent, Conservative, Christian who has been personally insulted as a voter because John Kerry thinks the "Heart and Soul of America" lays in the "X-rated sexual innuendo" of Whoopi Goldberg. Well, Michael McCrae thinks America is better than that. Michael McCrae believes there is at least some morality left. So Michael McCrae is going to leave this here (until after the election) as a reminder to all of what John Kerry and John Edwards believe the Real America to be. They believe America's "heart and soul" resides in the "X-rated sexual innuendo" of Whoopi Goldberg. You can draw your own conclusions.
