Sept. 5, 2004 When I wrote a personal reply to an e-mail I received from Mr. Werner Reyneke; “The Question of God”; I informed him that I am a man of simple vocabulary and simple faith. I assured him I would read his column. I read every column posted to Useless-knowledge.com because, sometimes, they are directed at me personally, or they are a response or rebuttal to something I’ve written. It is only fair to read others that are reading you. I enjoyed Mr. Reyneke’s “Sanity Versus Insanity”; wondering on which side of that fence I truly reside. I do believe he stretched his “perfect example of “Normality” and “Abnormality” swapping sides”. He could have used the more perfect example of “Jumpin” Jim Jeffords, as the “Abnormal determining factor” in a United States Senate achieving true obstructionism. (But he is from South Africa and I don’t think he is familiar with that particular example.) I told Mr. Reyneke that I admired his vocabulary; and it is certainly on display in his articles: “Grand Unifying Theories and Problems” and “Intellect, Creativity and Emotion”; but as I say, I am a simple man who likes to say things simply. So on “The Question of God”, which Mr. Reyneke asked my opinion of; I do not offer opinion; I offer answers. These answers are not mine. These answers are the authorship of God Himself. Werner, God is not a figment of someone’s active imagination. I am not really the person to ask these high and philosophically lofty questions. You would need to ask Paul the Apostle, St. Thomas Aquinas, Augustine, Martin Luther, Tyndale, Spurgeon, Scofield, and Billy Graham. Whatever men of faith are walking the earth today are the products of a faith handed down by these men through the generations. Mr. Reyneke wrote: “In the religion of Christianity, God is said to have created the whole universe out of nothing.” No. Christianity says no such thing. God told Moses to write the words of Genesis 1:1 through 2:25 and those words are still with us from the time they were first chiseled into the clay. That creation was certainly all good, because if was made by God and he declared it so. What many of the more philosophic types like Werner fail to understand is that the earth we all stand on today bears absolutely no resemblance to the earth God made. The simple explanation for that is God’s own curse upon his creation upon the disobedience of Adam. Sin brought the creation under God’s wrath. Men have no clue about the destructiveness of sin. The world God created was good and perfect, and it could have been maintained that way too had not Adam failed to obey God. The entire world is still suffering the effects of the sin of the first man. Jesus was once asked: “You are barely 30 years old. How can you say you know Abraham?” And He answered: “Before Abraham was, I am.” Jesus told the Apostle John as he penned the Revelation: “I am the first and the last; the beginning; the ending; the Alpha and the Omega.” God the Father told Moses from the burning bush that when Israel asked who sent you to get them out of Egypt; you just tell them: “I AM THAT I AM” has sent you. It is not rocket science or evolutionary science. It is faith that 40 men wrote 66 records of God’s historic dealings with men; and through providence and guidance by God own hand, these 66 records that all speak to the one great theme of Jesus, God’s own Son, were assembled and confirmed by men, not as the word of men; but as truly, the Word of God. I will leave all of you to contemplate that miracle. Did man invent God? No, Werner. It is a stupid thought, and a highly illogical one that men would invent something, and then place the something they invented as their higher power. God assuredly exists. Now, have men been stupid and illogical in the identification of the one true God of Heaven? Most assuredly! Men have subjugated themselves to birds, and beasts, and creeping things and the sun and the moon and all kinds of stars, plants, the ocean, the desert, you name it! They are all wrong. God is none of that. God has asked for none of that. Jesus was asked once: “Lord, what is the greatest commandment?” Jesus answered: “Love God with all your heart, mind, soul and strength, and the second is like unto it. Love your neighbor as yourself. In these two are fulfilled all the law and all the prophets.” This is what God asks for. Sin destroyed God’s good creation; these two commandments are capable of rebuilding what was destroyed. We see what a world with no God is capable of. We saw Nazi Germany, Soviet Russia and now Communist North Korea. That is what not having God is all about. We see what a world without the true God is like. We see the murderous world of the Islamists. We see Israel continually under threat and Jews hated worldwide. We see the continual persecution of Christians perpetuated by overblown philosophical diatribes in the halls of academia. (Gee! Where did that sentence come from?) Then we see what the world can be; but you have to be among those of like faith to realize what the Hebrew/Christian Scriptures speak of as community, real love, peace, and wisdom. You have to be there. You have to be with people of like spirit to have that peace in your associations. You do not get that from a church or a religion. You do not get that through a philosophy or a school textbook. You get that by trust and faith in the one person whose resurrection from the dead is the sole great event of God’s historical dealings with his creation. The Gospel is a simple thing that was simply written for everyone to understand and grasp. It took me 22 years of my life to grasp that and the 30 years since learning about what I have grasped. The Gospel is much more than any theory or philosophy because, simple, it is the truth. ------------ About the Author: Michael John McCrae is an Independent, Conservative, Christian who has been personally insulted as a voter because John Kerry thinks the "Heart and Soul of America" lays in the "X-rated sexual innuendo" of Whoopi Goldberg. Well, Michael McCrae thinks America is better than that. Michael McCrae believes there is at least some morality left. So Michael McCrae is going to leave this here (until after the election) as a reminder to all of what John Kerry and John Edwards believe the Real America to be. They believe America's "heart and soul" resides in the "X-rated sexual innuendo" of Whoopi Goldberg. You can draw your own conclusions.
