Aug 21, 2004 ARGH! And triple ARGH! The past couple of weeks have seen a solid wall of hate from the left, directed at the only man who has taken on the burden of the protection of the world’s greatest nation. He should not have gone to Florida to be in the way of the relief efforts; yet, it was his sworn duty to do just that. For the President not to have gone to Florida would have been a crime unworthy of his office; yet, the left decried the duty as a “political stunt.” John Kerry, on the other hand, did the right thing. He flew off in another direction to get his hair “trimmed”; then he went windsurfing and generally enjoyed himself; largely ignoring the plight of the Floridians. Oh. He did “order” his Florida campaign to render assistance; as if native Floridians weren’t already doing everything they could for each other. I wonder if he took the time out to write a check. Well, “Danged if you Do, Darned if you Don’t”: Grandma used to say. Then we have the announcement from our Commander In Chief of the American soldier realignment in Europe and Asia. Now I am reading in all the liberal media I have access to, how this will be a “burden” for the American taxpayer; how it will “injure” the economy of Germany; and how it is all “politically” motivated. This realignment is way past due. With the changed political landscape since the end of the Cold War, it is silly to keep all our European forces lumped in Germany (which does have its own army by the way). We now have an advantage we’ve never had before in being able to disperse forces closer to the world’s real hot spots. The good will we were able to enjoy and spread through Western Europe can now be spread throughout Eastern Europe; helping the economies of Eastern European countries still testing their new freedoms out from under Soviet oppression. As for Korea; once again America is taking a chance by taking the lead to diffuse tensions in the region. Americans have already been forced into smaller concentrations due to an increase in anti-American sentiment in South Korea. It is time to decongest the few camps and bases the Americans are living in. The United States Navy and Submarine forces can be deployed in such a way to create as much a deterrent as any ground force. South Korea has already accepted the “Lion Share” of defense posture. They have developed a very well trained and effective force for the protection of their own country. It is time to let South Korea take off the “training wheels” and start pedaling for themselves. John Kerry would “guarantee that within my first term, I will have substantial reduction in troops [in Iraq]” Kerry says 17,000 troops in Afghanistan aren’t enough, but he would not send additional American troops there. He would ask NATO to help bolster troop strength in Afghanistan; (Even though that is not NATO’s job.) Kerry also said he would support reducing troop strength in Korea “As an ultimate goal, but not as an immediate step.” (All Quotes from interview with “Stars and Stripes” Sunday Aug.8, edition.) So what is the difference? Bush’s plan is a 10 year plan; not an “immediate step”. It is a 10 year plan because it is designed to lessen any immediate economic impact on taxpayers or foreign economies. Sounds pretty “Win-Win” to me. I suppose 10 years is still too fast for John Kerry. How can you decry the plan of the President, yet have a plan of your own that mimics the plan of the President? I can hear Granny screaming now: “Danged if you Do, Darned if you Don’t!” It’s like this “Swift boat Vets” stuff. Because it is the truth; but because it is truth that damages the integrity of John Kerry; “Move- on.org”, which has been running repeated, unsubstantiated, lie-filled smears against the President is now boo-hooing and calling for the President to denounce the ads for “Unfit for Command” and force a wall of censorship against all things anti-Kerry. Now here is a real case of “Danged if you Do” because if the President denounces the veterans organization, “Move-on.org” will immediately put an ad out showing even the President doesn’t believe the truths contained in “Unfit for Command”. If the President denounces the book, then he is no longer defending the constitutional right of free speech. “Move-on.org” probably has a contingency ad that will curse Bush for NOT defending the veteran’s right to publish. If the President remains silent either way; “Move- on.org” continues to run its current lying ad that says President Bush is endorsing the book Kerry calls a “pack of lies”. Of course we all know that John Kerry is the only one telling the truth around here. Sixty-five eyewitnesses and 250 signatories have no clue as to how Kerry really received his military honors that he later, incidentally, threw away in protest. I guess we’ll all just have to trust the films of the reenacted heroic exploits of Kerry taken with his very own 8mm movie camera. I always thought that when you threw something away; it was gone for good. It was amazing how quickly a heroic war record, which included atrocities never reported and never atoned for; and awards gained through not-quite-telling-the- whole-truth-ism was resurrected, so Mr. Kerry could be a real war hero all “made over” again. Ah! But George W. Bush, who never shot an already wounded, fleeing enemy soldier in the back was AWOL for three months! NOT! So what is a President to do? He has revealed his entire service record while John Kerry has not. President Bush has revealed his plans for troop realignment that benefits our allies and our nation while John Kerry would leave all the troops in Germany. President Bush continues to care about the nation and ensures quick help to devastated people in Florida while John Kerry gets his hair cut, and offers platitudes about not wanting to be “in the way”. President Bush also neither endorses nor condemns a book, or the ads for the book that have every right to be broadcast and published in a free society while John Kerry calls for censorship and complete silence from honorable men. Gee! I wonder who would make a better President of the United States? Look! I know! It is important to note that Kerry went. For four months Kerry’s butt was on the line. But he was not there with the goal of protecting and defending a democratic ally of the United States. John Kerry gambled that the war would give him political advantage back home. His gamble paid off. He’s a hero. He’s the greatest thing since “glory” became a word. He left Vietnam just as soon as regulations said he could. Who could blame him for that? The truth of Kerry’s heroism is hidden behind a dark, 30-year old mask. It is possible that one or more of the medals he threw away in disgust in 1971 weren’t earned in the most proper way. His repeated calls for censorship against “Unfit for Command” and his repeated calls to have the current paperback edition of his own book “Tour of Duty”, re-edited; call to serious question his recollections of his four months on a Swift Boat. President Bush knows his duties as president. He went to Florida because it was his duty to do so as our nation’s leader. As Commander In Chief of the Armed Forces of America he has taken on the responsibility to realign our nation’s forces to better protect and defend America and her allies. He will not call for censorship against anyone, because as president, he has sworn to protect and defend the constitutional rights guaranteed all Americans, including the right of free speech. For anyone who suggests the President should not be doing these things, when certainly, they are a major part of any president’s job description; I would suggest that person return to the college they graduated from and demand a refund from their Political Science professor. They were shortchanged! ------------ About the Author: Michael John McCrae is an Independent, Conservative, Christian who has been personally insulted as a voter because John Kerry thinks the "Heart and Soul of America" lays in the "X-rated sexual innuendo" of Whoopi Goldberg. Well, Michael McCrae thinks America is better than that. Michael McCrae believes there is at least some morality left. So Michael McCrae is going to leave this here (until after the election) as a reminder to all of what John Kerry and John Edwards believe the Real America to be. They believe America's "heart and soul" resides in the "X-rated sexual innuendo" of Whoopi Goldberg. You can draw your own conclusions.
