July 26, 2004 The day before I went on my excursion into the bowels of hell, I decided to break with routine and take some time “Almost” to myself. I say “Almost” because I really don’t go anywhere or do anything over here without at least one other person in support; just in case. We are looking for a new place to stay because, as nice as our current accommodations could be; it would be much nicer if we could get some simple repairs done around here. One specific repair would be extremely nice; the cracked toilet seat that bites bottoms, which is currently “repaired” with a generous strip of duct tape. We pray for a replacement seat that never evolves. Anyway, after viewing three different apartment sites 1) too small with inadequate parking, 2) just right but too expensive with no parking, 3) the only part of the building completed was the garage. We went away feeling much more secure with our residence of the now. So, how to kill an afternoon? BURGER KING! Yes, a flame broiled double Whopper with cheese! Here in Kuwait City, nothing is pre-cooked; everything comes to you fresh and they bring it to your table. That’s so cool! The local “King” is the size of a small stadium with two floors. Upstairs is a view of the Arabian Gulf and the “family” center where children can play while mom and dad eat and watch. Man! I don’t hear the laughter of children enough! After lunch it is off to the mall. In this part of Kuwait City there are two very modern malls; each with all the accompanying shoe, clothing, jewelry and toy stores. Most interesting was the only book store I saw. As I walked through the doors I entered the paradise of liberal tomes dedicated to the abject, prurient mindset of core liberal values. There they were; every conceivable anti-Bush book written over the past 4 years; all prominently displayed. There were the Clinton books: “My Lies” and “Lying Hystery” (the “Y” very intentional). In the “Best Sellers” section was Michael Moore’s “Stupid White men”. It turns out Moore is an icon in the Arab world of American hate. All of Moore’s crap-mouth-laden epics were available. I looked. Then I looked again. Was there not at least one voice of reason among all this liberal, vitriolic, butt-covering whitewash? Then, I spied it: “The Ten Things You Can’t Say in America”, by Larry Elder. Two copies left on the shelf; both hard cover; and probably sitting there since the original publication year of 2000. Granted, Larry Elder is a Libertarian; but he is a truthful one. I can deal with truth. Larry! I bought your book! Luv’ya Guy! So now, in this land of anti-Americanism I have found a book that I can read. Whew! That was close! So, mall one down; on to mall two. GEE WHIZ! There is a MULTI-PLEX here! WOO-HOO! SPIDERMAN II!! Just the greatest sequel to one of the finest movies (Spiderman I) ever made. Fact: the greatest movie I have yet to see based on any comic book hero (and yes, I have seen them all). I owned a Spiderman Number ONE! (The sad story of how this and other of the many comic books in my collection were lost is for another time.) Here is my unbridled review of Spiderman II: Ebert and Ropert don’t have enough thumbs; the greatest fight scenes of all time (with maybe one exception ROCKY I); Spiderman III will be no match (Please let that not be true.) and DOC OCK was just absolutely COO’EL! So, what a day! What a fine day to enjoy before the wrath of Iraq; a day “Almost” to myself. ------------ About the Author: Michael John McCrae is an Independent, Conservative, Christian who has been personally insulted as a voter because John Kerry thinks the "Heart and Soul of America" lays in the "X- rated sexual innuendo" of Whoopi Goldberg. Well, Michael McCrae thinks America is better than that. Michael McCrae believes there is at least some morality left. So Michael McCrae is going to leave this here (until after the election) as a reminder to all of what John Kerry and John Edwards believe the Real America to be. They believe America's "heart and soul" resides in the "X-rated sexual innuendo" of Whoopi Goldberg. You can draw your own conclusions.
