July 20, 2004 “But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth. I do not write to you because you do not know the truth, but because you know it and because no lie comes from the truth. Who is a liar? It is the man who denies that Jesus is the Christ. Such a man is the antichrist – he denies the Father and the Son. No one who denies the Son has the Father. Whoever acknowledges the Son has the Father also. See that what you have heard from the beginning remains in you. If it does, then you will also remain in the Son and in the Father. And this is what he promised us – eternal life.” “I am writing these things to you about those who are trying to lead you astray. As you know, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit – just as it has taught you, remain in him. And now dear children, continue in him, so that when he appears we may be confident and unashamed before him at his coming.” (1John 2:20-28) John was writing to the True Christians. He knew the audience of his letter. He reminded the “children” of God of the greater gift that God had given them. The “anointing” was that which was promised by Jesus. Jesus told his disciples that when he went away he would be sure to send another “Comforter” who would be the “Holy Spirit”. The Spirit would be the one to teach the disciples all things and bring all that Jesus taught to their memories. No person who denies Jesus will ever see the Father. Jesus said, “No man can come to the Father, but by me.” To deny Jesus is to turn away from the One True God of Heaven. There were those in John’s day that denied Jesus. They claimed their righteousness, and their love of God, but without the love of the Son, all that became meaningless. None of these men received the gift of the “anointing”. There is no difference today. Men scoff against and deride the Hebrew/Christian Bible because they have neither the Son nor the Father. They have themselves. They have their own personal religions when they should be accepting the embrace of the personal God. True Christians know who they are because they know who they have trusted and God is ever faithful to his promises. The one that abides within the Christian is the guide, the instructor and the proof of position within the Body of Christ. John asks, “Who is a liar?” Then he answers, “It is the man who denies that Jesus is the Christ.” Jesus is coming again because he has promised that too. When he comes, he is coming to separate the sheep from the goats and send the goats to hell. That sounds pretty complete by Jesus’ teachings; don’t you think? The judgment does not come because of sin, or decay of morals, or outright evil, or any particular reason other than, “I never knew you.” I have written this several times, but it always bears repeating; Salvation is an individual affair between the One True God of Heaven and each man having been given life by God. The “anointing” of the Holy Spirit is “real”; not “counterfeit”. There are absolutes. Not everything can be granted the status of “gray”. There is a stop and a go. There is a true and a false. There is a life and a death. The gray between the stop and the go is called a street full of cars. The gray between true and false is confusion and ignorance. The gray between life and death is mediocrity and boredom. There may be safety in gray for a while. History has proven that such safety is fleeting and non- lasting. Absolute decisions lead to conclusions. Thirty years ago I made an absolute decision. Its conclusion: “As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you.” That is not arrogance. That is fact. Can I be taught more Science, Math, Biology, Language Arts and even Logistics? Yes. Can any “man” teach me above what God has already written and given me of his Spirit to understand?
