Oct 10, 2003 In recent weeks the headlines had screamed, “87 Billion More For Iraq”. They might as well have been screaming, “Elvis Found On Jupiter’s Moon!” or “Fluffy Bunnies Now Carry Machetes!” I’ve had my fill of this nonsense. A while back the President asked congress to approve an additional 87 billion dollars to go to Iraq. Apparently, 67 billion would go to the troops (according to every democratic talking head, who also said that they’d ok that) while 20 billion would go to other nations to encourage them to aid in the creation of a new country. That 20 billion dollars, they (the democrats) said, should not be approved. Why? Our unilateral action in Iraq (I guess unilateral means 30 plus countries acting together to bring down one of the most destabilizing nations in that region in order to bring peace to an area that has never known it) should have been first approved by the house and senate (even though it was, well, they didn’t mean to actually go to war) and the United Nations should have also voted on it as well. (Am I the only one here who remembers that they did?) One wise and worldly democratic contender (for the life of me, I can’t remember which one, do ya’ think they could wear name badges or something to tell them apart?) suggested that repealing President Bushs’ tax cut for the wealthiest one percent could pay for the 87 billion. Have these guys ever had a real job in their lives? C’mon! When are we going to stop picking on the rich like they are some sort of leprous caste? When are they going to realize they are the ones that own companies, hire people, pay salaries to the rest of us? Just look at California, the rich are fleeing faster than lab rats on cappuccino. Anyway, if you looked at the news, read the papers recently, you would think that the 87 billion was all we had left and we still had the cable bill and the gas bill to pay so, sorry, would love to ok it but we’re kinda’ short this week. Let me give you a quick lesson in why this is nothing but political noise meant to scare the rest of us into thinking that President Bush is going to sell the farm in order to pay for all this. One; U.S. Farm Subsidies for the last seven years was over 114 billion. Two; 403.5 billion loss in net foreign investments for the year 2000. Three; 162 billion in Medicaid grants in 2003. Four; 245 billion in Medicare. Five; 88 billion in federal retirement. Six; 476 billion in social security. Seven; 57 billion in veteran’s benefits. That was just by giving a quick look through the Economic Report From The President and Department of Commerce Bureau of Economic Analysis. These are just a few figures I pulled from a couple of reports that were available on line. Now, I’m no L.A. Times reporter or even a N.Y. Times reporter (even though I am writing this at home and not on the mean streets of Peru or where- ever) but if I can put this all in perspective then why can’t they? Easy. They don’t want to. Ok kids, what can we learn from all this? How about, if you scream loud enough about the little things then the big expenses get ignored. Just look at the liberal media screaming about every incident that occurs in Iraq. I would sure like to see the figures on the deaths that occurred after we defeated the Japanese and Germans in WWII. Should we have cut and run after the first death of an American soldier? I am getting sick and tired of hearing about how we should hide behind the skirt of mama U.N. after every nasty little booboo we get. (I don’t mean to downplay they casualties we have suffered there though, every man and woman over there is important, but remember, they are there to do a job. A dangerous job.) I guess the biggest shock I received was when they (read ‘they’ as Liberal Media) actually reported that there was a conservative bias in the media. Do you know what that means? That means that our current President has not been playing ‘hide the Constitution’ with any interns, has not been playing loose and fast with our military, has not been giving communist countries our nuclear secrets, and has not been playing cover-up with law firm records. If there is no dirt on this President then there must be a bias somewhere, because it is unheard of to actually have a man in office with morals and integrity! Then again, what would you expect from a man who was endorsed (National Enquirer) by an alien race.
