June 9, 2003 Over the past few days, I have seen articles aimed at me, maybe as a rebuttle against what I have said and my affiliation with the Democratic Party. Well, I am not leaving party, and I do not plan to. I am a democrat. I believe in equality and justice. I believe that the people always have the 'right-of-way'. All people should be thought of and taken care of, whether or not they are different in race, or income, or where they live. I do not believe in equality of outcome or communism in any way. I believe that people can make as much money as they want. But yes, they are then going to pay more taxes, that just makes sense. Everyone pays taxes, though. EVERYONE pays taxes, there is not getting away from that, as much as we wish we could. The poorer people pay taxes, the richer people pay taxes. So when we give child tax cuts or any cut, they should go to ALL people. You can't just leave someone out because they do not pay as much. They are paying more than enough. They work for their money, just like the richer do. When there is a tax cut, all people should benefit from it. People over business, another thing I believe in. I truly believe in the people and how important they are; you couldn't have business without them. So when Republicans go up and support the businesses over these people who just wanted a new pair of clothes or a computer, and get nothing or get scammed, the Republicans find some reason to say the business is okay for taking away what the people had. I find that to be alarming, I find that to be disgraceful, that people could forget about other people and support the big companies who have the cash. Just today, Monday June the 9th, the Supreme Court ruled 9-0 for a woman who was discriminated against because of her gender. 9-0! Now, there must have been discrimination, I do not believe that all nine justices could have gotten together to support this woman without a reason. But what did the Bush administration do? The far right-winged business Bush administration urged the court to side with the business, Caesars Palace. Well, what a suprise. The Republicans come out and say, 'Oh, it's okay. Just let the business have their way. There was no discrimination. The woman just lost her job. What a big deal that the rest of the employees are male.' People get discriminated against EVERYDAY, and Republicans get in the way to support the business, I mean, they are the ones with the money anyways. We need them to win again. Democrats support the people, the everyday people, the poor people, the rich people, ALL people. I hope you understand that I am a strong Democrat, and I could not even think about being a person who puts business in front of people EVERY time, and business in front of the environment EVERY time, and business in front of good morals EVERY time. ------------ About the author: Matthew Stensrud is a high school student who loves politics and life.
