Sept 16, 2003 Matthew Stensrud and Archith Ramkumar are no longer submitting columns to Useless-Knowledge. Intellectually, this isn't a major loss. After all, they were only in high school, and it is to be expected that their world view was starry-eyed idealistic, comically unrealistic, and dangerously naively. In other words, liberal. I'm not really sure if I should be talking about this, judging from the dead canaries wrapped in newspaper that I find on my doorstep every morning, courtesy of Editor Corleone. I jest. Our Editor, the Don, has been nothing but gracious to me, and I am forever in his debt. This on the day of his daughter's wedding... Stensrud and Ramkumar were not fitted for cement shoes, and sent to sleep with the fishes. Ballons have only so much hot air before the become completely empty. Stensrud and Ramkumar were such partisan Democrats that they couldn't even be labeled "rank and file." Even the rank and file admit Jimmy Carter is as almost as embarrassing to the party as Larry Flynt, or Julia Roberts. Stensrud and Ramkumar were blue dog Democrats, on the level of Karl Marx, Joseph Stalin and Barbara Streisand. They added nothing to the discourse on Editor Soprano's wonderful website. Strensrud's articles, though articulate, were merely platitudinal, Democrat banners. They read like pages from "The Beginner Democrat," or "Liberalism For Teens." Not one of his articles was ever backed up by any semblance of research. They were baseless, non-researched, anti-Conservative diatribes. When Stensrud finally did research, after much cajoling from me, in particular, he would only cite far left, ultra liberal websites. I can understand why he is no longer submitting. There are only so derivations of "Bush is stupid," "Republicans are nazis," and "Conservative Christians are evil," that a liberal can recycle before even they get bored and quit. Now, if only John Kerry and Howard Dean would follow suit. Strensrud and Ramkumar are very indicative of liberalism today? Liberalism is being presented with reams of data, facts, and evidence, and you dismiss it, because you feel that "war is bad." We need intelligent, articulate liberals who are willing to debate, and back up what they say; who don't brainlessly and groundlessly lambast Republicans for sport. It's pointless, much like posting articles about two nameless people having a cryptic, indecipherable dialogue in somebody's den. We need liberal writers who are willing to engage in a discussion; who don't think Conservatives as sexist, racist, heartless demons from the ninth level of Hell. These liberals do exist. Scott Jones is a very smart, very nice guy. Alan Colmes and Maura Liasson, from Fox News, are intelligent, reasonable, and principled people, who give Conservatives credit, when credit is due. This is a call for liberals - this is a free market place of well-reasoned ideas. Let all thoughtful opinions and viewpoints be heard and let the best one win. Honest debate is the lifeblood of politics. I am thankful for Useless Knowledge. It is an immensely interesting, informative and entertaining web site. I am proud and honored to be a part of it.
