What Conservatism Means to Me
Aug 17, 2003

Personal Responsibility

In the immortal, sagacious words of Led Zeppelin, "it's nobody's fault but mine." Conservatism doesn't blame the bad childhood, it blames the child. I can already see the eyes of liberals everywhere leaping open, and moistening, "but he had a bad childhood! He is a defective product of a broken home, disenfranchised by society. No wonder he turned to a life of crime! He can't help it!" If criminals truly do not know the difference between right and wrong, and what they commit are "crimes," then why are there so many car chases in Los Angeles? Why did it take so long to find the Beltway Snipers? Why does it take years to apprehend serial killers? If someone truly doesn't think raping and murdering is wrong, he would be telling the guys at the office. "What did you do last night, Mike?" "Not much. Just raped, tortured and murdered a coed. Are we still going to the game this weekend?" Everyone knows the difference between right and wrong; what is acceptable behavior, and what is criminal. Everyone. We are responsible for what we do. It's not "bad parents," "uncaring teachers," "hoodlum friends," "the music we listen to," or "a society out to see us fail." It's us. None of this lame blame game garbage, or anger at how others have wronged you. It's our life, no one else's. Excuses walk.

Self Respect

If you had a bad childhood, you have my sympathy; but are you really going to let what someone else did to you forever rule your life? Are you going to let something in the past, that wasn't your fault to begin with, define who you are now? Whoever did whatever to you is a coward and a piece of junk, and not deserving of harboring any part of your mind. Why let the action of someone who doesn't even deserve to be called a human being dictate who you are? It's easy to be self destructive and blame it on your past. It takes courage to respect yourself; to decide that you are going to rise above your past, instead of cowering under its shadows. It takes strength to be a good person, and to do good, when you come from "bad." Acting out, destroying your life and other people's lives, and making excuses is beyond weak. I have a speech impediment. In no way, shape, form or fashion is it comparable to physical, mental or sexual abuse, but do you think I hide under my bed because I am one of the less than 2% of people in this country who stutters? Or blame God, and my parents, for "making me different" than the other 98% of the country? Give me a break. We are how we are for reason. You concern yourself with "how do I become the maximum, optimal Me?" Making excuses is easy. That's why everyone can do it.

Personal Ethic

Passion, Persistence, Fairness, Honesty, Determination, Relentlessness, Tirelessness and Strength.

Work Ethic

Liberalism gives someone five bucks without asking them to work for it. Conservatism gives someone the skills and means to go out and earn twenty.

Good and Evil Evil is alive and well, and it is relentlessly trying to destroy Good in a plethora of insidious and depraved ways. Good must be defended, evil must be defeated. No negotiations. No pause. No mercy.

Tax Cuts and Capitalism

Why give "the rich" more of a tax break? Who do you think owns the companies in America? You give "the rich" a larger tax break because, for one, they pay almost 70% of the taxes in America, but, more importantly, they take the extra money, freed by lower taxes, and spend it on research and development, and expansion. This means new jobs are created to handle the newfound growth. They, of course, must then hire people in order to fill these new positions. In turn, more people are working, spending, investing and saving - which is the economy. In turn, more people have the resources to start new businesses, which creates competition in the marketplace, which means lower prices for the consumer - since businesses are competing for your dollar - and more efficient goods and services. If you punish the "rich" (business owners) with high taxes and lesser tax breaks, companies won't spend on growth, which creates jobs. They will hoard their money back for a rainy day. "Tax cuts for the rich" is the necessity for a booming, rocking and rolling economy.

America and Tradition

God, country, family, friends, truth, justice and the American Way. This is the greatest country ever put on this planet. Our brilliant founding fathers created the most ingenious system of government, and a scheme of checks and balances to insure that their governing ideology, culled from democracy and republicism, would withstand both the test of time, and assaults from without. And it has. This is a country where if you work hard, strive to better yourself, make personal sacrifices along the way, you can achieve beyond what you set out to do. This is a country that feeds millions of people across the world, and provides health care for impoverished nations. We defeated the most evil and potentially destructive ideology ever imagined by man, Communism. (No, not Liberalism. "Ideology" infers that you actually have ideals.) We protect the world from terrorism, dethrone dictators, and protect Muslims from ethnic cleansing. We are the world's Financial Aid office, Police Force, Doctor and Teacher. No country on earth has had the compassion, altruism, and freedom of America.

If you are one of these guilty, self-hating Liberalcrats who thinks it's so bad here, go live in North Korea. See how much they hate the freedom you have, and hate.
