July 24, 2003 Our neighbor to the North is transforming itself from the country that launched the biological attack on the world known as Celine Dion, to the country of same-sex marriage and universal health care. O, Canada, indeed. According to http://www.religioustolerance.org/hom_marr.htm: "2001-APR [is] when Holland enlarged its definition of marriage to include both opposite- sex and same sex couples. Belgium followed suit during 2003-JAN. Next came Ontario, Canada. Finally, on 2003-JUL-9, same-sex marriage became permitted in both Canadian provinces of British Columbia and Ontario. Any adult couple -- same- sex or opposite sex -- from any country can come to one of these two provinces, buy a marriage license and get married. Same-sex marriages are expected to be legal and available across the entire country sometime in 2004." We will leave whether or not homosexuality is a sin to God. I know...St. Paul talks about the immorality of homosexuality in his letters. To paraphrase Jesus - it's God's job to sort out who is going to Heaven and Hell, not ours. The issue is legalizing an affront to an institution as old as time itself. Outside of the Abortion Lobby - I'm sorry, the "Women's Reproductive Choice" Lobby, or whatever the tortured euphemism is today - the Homosexual Lobby is the strongest political group. In film and TV, gays are always the wisest, wittiest, and most likable character. They are one of the major contributor to the Democratic party. They are also the major contributor to the deterioration of America's values. I am a fan of "Will and Grace." For a "standard" sitcom, it's funny, and very well acted. I am a fan of Cliver Barker, who is one of the most talented horror/fantasy writers of all time, and Ellen DeGeneres is one of the most gifted comedic personalities. The mission of the militant majority of this movement is out to ridicule, belittle and demean the Judeo-Christian values shared by an overwhelming majority of Americans. You've seen the gay pride parades in the major cities. It's not enough for homosexuals to march peacefully in street clothes. Their marches are a gaudier, more depraved Mardi Gras. If homosexuals are trying to convince people of the normalcy of their lifestyle, in order to be included and accepted in mainstream America, I don't think holding parades featuring shirtless men, in make- up, grinding each other, and men wearing feather headdresses and rainbow leotards, kissing each other as they pass small children on the sidewalk, is your most persuasive argument. The gay agenda is the complete decimation of our traditional values. Nothing more. And it has produced results. "According to a USA Today/CNN/Gallup Poll 55 percent said same-sex marriages should not be recognized with the same rights as traditional marriages between a man and a woman, while 39 percent said they should be valid. When the same question was asked in March 1996, 68 percent said homosexual marriages should not be recognized by law, while 27 percent believed they should." http://www.belief.net/story/129/story_12908_1.html For those of us who believe that marriage was established by God to be between Man and Woman for a reason, this is great news. The voracious, pugilist homosexual lobby will move North, to Canada, the new Europe. As will those who despise capitalism. Hillary Clinton's health care plan was one of the biggest bombs this side of the latest Madonna movie. Liberals still fantasize about a world where Communism took over; where no one is better than anyone else; where competition is an epithet; where the government makes every life decision, and controls every industry; where Karl Marx statues are bowed before and worshipped. Liberals seethe at the idea that only the best ideas and products should win out, and that the failures should, God forbid, fail. The socialists in our country, more widely known as "Democrats," devoutly hold that it's government's role to level the playing field; to make sure everyone scores the same amount of points, has the same amount of playing time, and everyone is named MVP. Just as insiduous, they also believe that it's government's mandate to provide for every want and need for every man, woman and child. One of the main headliner issues is "universal health care." And they point to the model in Canada. You know you have serious problems when you point to Canada. For anything. Some interesting data from http://www.unitednorthamerica.org/healthcare.htm. "A pay-as-you-go system is attractive to the person who can afford it, because they are assured top-quality health care. A one-size-fits- all system is attractive to the person who can't afford to pay for his/her health care, because he/she never has to worry about paying high medical bills. It's debatable which system is better, but it's unquestionable as to which one provides the highest amount of quality. The US is leaps and bounds above any other country in terms of health care research, treatment, and facilities. It is estimated by the that in 2000- 2001 the U.S. government spent $1 (CDN) on medical research, for every $0.11 (CDN) spent by the Canadian government, all per capita." "Canada seems to be not able to afford to provide the kind of quality health care that people demand. Even the Liberal government has cut millions in this department. Yet, will universal health care ever disappear completely? Not necessarily. However, will anyone but the very poor wish to use it? Again, if trends continue, the answer is, probably no. Health care quality keeps declining in Canada, not only because of government cuts, but also because many health care professionals move south, where they can work in the most technologically advanced hospitals on the planet making higher wages." Availability of Adequate Medical Facilities/Services Canada Very/Somewhat Satisfied: 28.4% Very/Somewhat Dissatisfied: 61.9% United States Very/Somewhat Satisfied 93.2% Very/Somewhat Dissatisfied: 1.9% Government Involvement Canada Very/Somewhat Satisfied: 9.1% Very/Somewhat Dissatisfied: 74.5% Neutral: 16.4% Like most socialist ideas, it has been a rousing success. Those of us who love this country, and love the principles it was founded on, should be joyous. Freedom-hating liberals are going to migrate north en masse. If Canada legalizes marijuana, like they have been threatening to do, it will rid us of all the SUV-, free market-, red meat- hating hippies. Canada will become a giant commune where everyone works to pay for the universal health care they need because of the effects of their pot smoking. This is, of course, until they lose their jobs from being high all the time, and the government of the "North American France" has to start paying out a record number of unemployment checks; not to mention the amount of newly homeless who weren't able to pay their bills because they lost their jobs, or for spending their rent money on marijuana. Canada should change their name to "The North American Amsterdam." ------------ Visit LannyGrant.com or email Lanny Grant: lannygrant@aol.com Comment on this column in the forum.
