May 10, 2004 Why do they hate us so much? Because they can, America is one of the few countries in the world where all decent is permitted. Fear and distrust are stronger emotions than love and understanding. In any contest between good and evil, evil usually wins the moment. In the end good will prevail but at a price. The people of Iraq don’t really hate Americans; they’re venting thirty years of pent-up emotions. They are exorcizing rights never before allowed in their country. We set them free to do what fee people do, vent. Our media questions every act of disagreement the Iraqi’s show toward Americans while celebrating the discontent in our own country proclaiming it as the benefit of a free society. The Sunday talk shows probably create the lack of trust the world has for America more than any other source. There truly is a hypocritical media, a media of discontent. June thirtieth is coming up and they question who will be in charge in Iraq. It is to be an election of sorts, let the process go forward let the Iraqi’s choose. November is coming up and we don’t know who will be in charge in America. Is that cause for panic? The liberals are calling for Don Rumsfeld’s head. The man is partially responsible for the liberation of 50 million people, the liberals would dump him because twenty or so prisoners were mistreated, six or so soldiers acted inappropriately. Let assume there is more to come, shouldn’t we wait for all the evidence to come out? Or is the rush to discredit this administration so strong we suspend the constitution for of political expediency. The House and the Senate both held public hearings. No mention was made of their responsibility for over-sight of military actions. Dozens of Congressmen have visited Iraq and Afghanistan. If these atrocities were so blatantly obvious why didn’t those Congressman see them? Is it they are to busy posing for photo-ops with Generals they don’t get down with the Grunts, they didn’t see what was right in front of them? Harry Truman was one of my favorite Presidents. His one big mistake in office was that damn desk plaque that said “THE BUCK STOPS HERE”. It forever gave Congress an excuse for not taking responsibility for their actions or lack of action. Congress has been passing the buck to Presidents ever since. President Bush started out with a strong message for the Arab world; supporting terrorist would not be tolerated. He let the UN and the world know indecisive action was not acceptable. He seems to be losing the momentum; he seems to be letting the liberals in the Democratic Party distract him from the goals he went into the Middle East to accomplish. The American People chose President Bush because of his strength not because he could read the poles. Americans aren’t cowards and they aren’t afraid to fight when it’s for a just cause. America was behind the President then and they are behind him now. There will always be a few who for no other reason than to disagree will disagree. This to will pass, but at what cost? ------------ About the Author: Ken Hughes is a retired businessman. A political junkie who's passion is the re-education of Liberals and Term Limits for Congress.
