Do We Need A Draft or Fewer Pundits?
Apr 25, 2004

Everyday we’re bombarded with advice from Congressman, the Media and former Military officers telling us what is needed to win the war in Iraq and Afghanistan. Policies contrived at Washington cocktail parties don’t win wars. Those same pundits fight every battle, direct every conflict and never leave the bar. They don’t necessarily fulfill the brightest requirements supporting our army morally, intellectually or materially. My suggestion is, butt-out!

President Bush has repeatedly said he is allowing those officers in the field leading the charge to conduct the war and determine their own needs. The President has put his best people in charge; He is letting them do their thing, what’s wrong with that? Politics has no place on the battlefield. Politicians have poorly managed each of our conflicts or attempts at nation saving since world war two. Not one has been considered successful in terms of a military or political victory.

We have enabled and protected North Korea for years, a country that now threatens us with nuclear capabilities, one of the most brutal regimes in history.

By accepting the Cuban Revelation it has resulted in half their population moving to the United States and those who stayed aren’t much better off than when Castro took power.

How many time have we sent troops to Haiti to solve political unrest and as a result the country is still one of the poorest in the world.

Our politicians have poured money and recourses into African Nations, they are still no better for it than when they were as colonies of European nations.

America has gone around the world putting out the fires of discontent. The UN speaks and America acts. The world is certainly no safer now than it was at the end of world war two. The UN has contributed little or nothing aside from passing resolution after resolution, assuring world peace and stability. None are honored by its member nations.

I stand corrected, Nations with a white-skinned populations have faired very well from Americans and UN involvement. It’s those countries of brown or black skin that suffers.

There’s probably a reason for the expectation white nations would do better. I believe much of the world still considered the white culture to be superior to other ethnic groups.

I’m not suggesting this is intentional; it’s simply one of those old held over truths yet to be erased from the minds of many. If no standards are expected non will be meet. The strong will rule, the weak will suffer it’s the law of the jungle.

Those Liberals in congress who are advocating the draft have an agenda. They know that when we have an army of non-volunteers they will be less dedicated. We have an army of dedicated men and women [enlistments are on the rise] who know the risks and are willing to take those risks to protect America’s freedom. The men and women who serve are there because they made a commitment to their country, the same commitment all volunteer soldiers have made since the revolutionary war. They believe in what they’re doing and they do it better than any other army in the world. Sending conscripted soldiers into battle would be Viet Nam all over again. Liberals know this and they know it’s their best chance at undermining our President and our armed forces efforts to win the battle against the terrorists.

Liberals don’t see a draft as a need, they see it as a means to create another federally funded program. Congressman Charles Rangel of New York is one of the leading proponents of a draft. His claim blacks are serving disproportionately to whites. Heads up Congressman it’s a volunteer army no one is holding a gun to their heads making them volunteer. A draft would create discontent. It would destroy the commitment our men and women have. If I were Congressman Rangel I would be proud so many in my race are committed to protecting America. Patriotism isn’t something to be ashamed of Congressman Rangel. Unless of course you’re a John Kerry / Teddy Kennedy Liberal.

There seems to be culture in Washington far removed from mainstream America. They act as though we are totally separate and inferior to their world. We have no place in their world. [Argument No. 10,001 for Term Limits]

Democrats had control of congress for the better part of 70 years [where laws are made, where budgets are set, where government functions] yet we are continually bombarded with this notion that America is a beehive of problems all created by whoever is President at the time. Congress takes no responsibility for anything not in their personal best interest.

I would prefer we limit the lies politicians tell more than the money they spend telling them. This country needs a new Congress with new rules. Twelve years is enough time for anyone to spend in elective office.
