It's Their Culture
Apr 18, 2004

The Constitution specifically defines the responsibilities of the three branches of government. Some where along the line that’s gotten lost. Congress now spends much of its time investigating Presidents. This is something that started with President Nixon; it’s been ongoing ever since. The frivolous investigations by congress of Presidents is something I doubt the founding fathers ever envisioned or would approve of. I can’t find any authorization in the Constitution [Impeachment is the only option]. I know these investigations are always disguised as something other than what they appear. Please!

The current 9/11 commission is an example of frivolous oversight. The commission consists of former members of congress who had oversight of the CIA and the FBI. One of the members is a former Assistant Attorney General. I am not going to expand on the fine articles written for Useless Knowledge by Michael Serrao and Mike Romer. I think they said it about as well as it could be explained.

My concern isn’t for the investigation; it’s for the price we are paying not only in lives but also in acceptance of a humanitarian mission from the rest of the world. Democracy in the Middle East is essential for world peace. Until there is a culture of people asserting some degree of self-determination in the Muslim World, the world will be in turmoil.

My solution is a heavier hand and less diplomacy. Keep politics off the battlefield. No conflict was ever settled at the negotiating table. Diplomats don’t win wars they agree on the degree of defeat. The Military should be left alone to do their jobs as they see them. When they’ve completed their mission then let the Diplomats do their thing.

I am a very strong supporter of a free press; I am disappointed in the lack of honesty and The total lack of integrity of the main stream Media in this 24/7 news flood we are being subjected to. This is where the Media could perform a service, by telling the whole truth.

If we better understand the history of the Middle East and the Arab world as a whole perhaps we can understand their reluctance to the American and Coalition troops in their countries as either occupiers or protectors.

Iraqis don’t hate Americans and they certainly are appreciative of our disposing of the Hussein Family. They hate occupation; they’ve been occupied for centuries. For four thousand years they have been able to blame all their ills on occupiers. Like spoiled children they have had the privilege of never having to take responsibility for their actions. Now that American has come to liberate them and tell them, they are leaving as soon as they can take charge of their own affairs. No one has ever even suggested to the People of Iraq they were capable of self-determination. The Americans say, “You are free to practice democracy”, the Iraqis say, “What is democracy”? Not to have every day of their life’s controlled by others is a concept they don’t understand. Not knowing the fundamentals of self-determination is a freighting thing when it’s forced upon them. To have a dream realized and not be prepared for it is a freighting experience.

A fear not unlike the Americans of 1775. The American revelation had less than half the support of the population’s in the beginning days, [months and years] of the conflict. Can we expect any less of the Iraqis?

I make no excuses or offer no explanation for al Qaida. They are a group of murders with out purpose as far as I can see. Not all Arabs or all Muslims are al Qaida. I don’t think most would support al Qaida. I understand their caution in not openly denouncing al Qaida. When someone has lived his or her entire life in a tyrannical society with death in sight the fear doesn’t disappear the first time a nice guy comes along and says it’s over.

This culture in the Middle East has been going on for centuries. It isn’t going to be changed overnight. It takes one generation to set any meaningful example in motion.

Then it will take several more generations to bring democracy to fruition. The world hasn’t been kind to the Arab world in the past nor has it been kind to the world. It took oil to make them accepted in the community of nations. Along with the oil they brought an oppressive culture. The world was expected to accept both as a price for the needs of one.

To John Kerry and other American Liberals, UN Diplomats and Euros I say this “Your better plan hasn’t worked for 60 years”. There is no reason to assume it will work now!

LIBERALS, LEAD, FOLLOW OR GET OUT OF THE WAY.

WORLD, IF AMERICA IS TO BE YOUR SAVIOR, STEP ASIDE AND LET IT DO IT’S JOB.

These are my views, you form yours.
