So Why Didn't Bush Listen?
Mar 31, 2004

The question being ask is why didn’t Bush listen to Clarks warnings about 9/11? Now I have a question for those asking questions? Who was he to listen to? In his counsel he has Dr. Rice a respected leading academic; he has Donald Rumsfeld with credentials beyond reproach. He has several other officials he has a great deal of confidence in. Then there is Richard Clark a bureaucrat who served in the Clinton administration who did nothing to prevent terrorism in eight years. Richard Clark had a reputation of being an arrogant self-serving pain in the ass. This is not the type of man President Bush trusts. He’s not the man you and I would have had confidence in. Why didn’t Senator Kerry question the terrorist attaches taking place during Clinton’s terms in office? Why was there no Congressional investigation then?

Washington has gotten to the point when a member of one party burp’s the other party call for an investigation. The sole purpose of the 9/11 commission was not to find blame but to determine how better to prevent the next disaster. As usual the national media and politicians turned it into “ How will this effect the election” or “Will this damage Bush’s chances for re-election”. Kerry has been silent for the most part; knowing turning this into a political issue will only enhance the Bush image.

I am more concerned with the insistence of the media to air all the workings of the government. Most of the public, myself included isn’t well enough informed on every issue to make a rational determination. We elect and employee those persons we trust with the ability to operate the functions of government for us. We only have a need to know the important things and maybe the really good sexy stuff.

I think we can all agree the government has grown far beyond our needs. With that so grows the media. There are a number of 24 / 7 news sources both radio and television.

There are more sources for news than there is news to report. This is when aggressive reporting rears its ugly head [in the 19th century it was call yellow journalism]. Reporters in order to build an image or even to keep their jobs resort to fabrication or at the very least embellishing stories.

The next sin of the media is to invoke their political opinions while claiming neutrality.

ABC, CBS, NBC and CNN have a definite Liberal bias. Fox has as a Conservative bias.

Thus their motto, fair and balanced [your left, we’re right, so what]. Thank God our founding fathers determined a free press was essential for a free nation. I doubt had they foreseen the media as it is today they would have made any other decision than a free press. It should be up to us, we the people to separate the wheat from the chaff. When in doubt ask yourself the following questions, A] is it believable, B] what would I do in a similar situation and C] what is the agenda of the person speaking. When you’ve answered these questions you’ll know what you should believe.

Most media manufactured stories only last a few days then they become yesterday’s news and it’s on to the next big story. This 9/11 hysteria will pass in a few days, hopefully something good will come of it. As I said before 9/11 couldn’t have been prevented or can any terrorist attach when they are determined to carry one out. The best we can expect of our government is to be vigilant and take all the necessary precautions to insure the safest possible environment. Nothing can be 100 %.

We Americans may not be God’s only people, but I’ll bet we’re his first choice.
