Oct 16, 2003 Republican Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, how about that ? It was inevitable he would win. The econonic climate in California was a disaster. For to long the politicians have bought the votes of the underprivileged, minorities and social- elitists with the promise of feel-good entitelments. There had to be a day of reckoning, it came Tuesday last. Democrats are long on social programs and short on the lesions of history. The war of 1775 was fought for many of the same reasons as the re-call. For those Democrats who arn't familiar with that war it was also known as the War for Independence or The Revolutionary War. I believe the British still refer to it as the War of Insurrection. It started over forced economic restrictions and excessive taxes. It ended creating the greatest Republic the world has ever known. I am sure if Arnold has his way history will repeat itself. Let me begin by saying not all Republicans are Conservative and not all Democrats are Liberal. I believe in the two party system. I also believe the leadership of the Current Liberal Democratic party is the most venonous, vindictive, malicious, trash-talking lying group ever assembled in one political party. I would be more specific but the restraints of good-tast required on this web-site restrict my language. I heard the California re-call was a rejection of the Bush doctrine. I heard it was orchestrated by Republicans. I heard Arnold will fail, the California Legislature won't let him succeed. No, Yes and No. There where as many reasons for the re-call as there are people explaning it. One thing Democrats will say it had nothing to do with the deposed Governor. This is a wake-up call for Democrats. Taxing the Middle-class to support the economically less-advantaged ( that's PC for non-producers ), is proving to be the un-doing of the Democratic party. A slow erosion of power is taking place in the Federal system as well as States governments. Granted they are going kicking and screaming but be assured they are going. It is evident the Republican party will dominate National politics in at least the first half of the twenty-first century. What lesions should we have learned in the past one hundred plus years ? The Republican party of the first quarter of the twentieth century was less than admirable. The Democratic party lead us out of a depression, they established social justice, Harry Truman's leadership changed the world for the better after WW ll. It was not until Presidential Candidate George McGovern turned the Democrtaic party over to a group of Young Tyrannical Rebels It become the party bent on total socialist controll of our socity. What we should expect of the Republican party? A balance between social justice and economic independence, human rights balanced with individual freedom. Certain protections without infringing on the rights or property of others. The open honest discussion of issues. These are the things our constitution guarantee us. Both parties are in need of an over-haul. They should ride themselvs of a number of long-serving members of Congress who's Ideals, Ideas and biases no longer are relevent to current issues. As a Conservative Republican I am willing to start the reform with my party to enact the needed reforms. Term Limits for Congress. The Country needs new ideas, a new enthusiasm in our representation. This isn't possible with the GOOD-OLD-BOY system in effect in the current Congressional structure. The founding Fathers envisioned a balance of power that is why they established the two party political system. Each representative would have an equal oppertunity to vote their constituents desires. This has been eroded to the point a freshman in congress must spend years before he or she has a right to express any opinion. Even then they are expected to follow the party line. Democrats seem to be the most partisan in their demands for complicity. It will take years to draft and approve a constitutional amendment for Term Limits. Not to mention getting any sponsorship. The time to act is now. The Constututional Amendment should read For the House of Representatives, three four year terms. For the Senate, two six year terms. No person having served the prescribed terms could stand for re-election to the same office. This would allow a limited number of Congressman to serve up to a maximum of twenty-four years. It would open the political process up to many new candidates. New ideas, ideals from a new genoration of atheistic minds. The only way to improve the political system is to get involved. Listen and be heard, engage in political discussions. Who do you think instiagted the idea it was inappropriate to discuss politics. Politicans of course, No discussion no descent. ------------ About the Author: Ken Hughes is a retired businessman.
