Bamboozled By Bush, I Don't Think So
Feb 25, 2004

We all have a right to opinions, as all have a right to disagree and when they’re made public the response can be in a public form as well . In my opinion there isn’t enough public debate regarding politics so when presented with an opportunity I jump on it.

It‘s one thing to disagree with the Presidents politics but it is yet another to totally misrepresent them. Journalist, be they Reporters or Columnists have an obligation to represent the facts even when expressing an opinion. The Media has so misrepresented the functions of Government the public no longer knows what responsibilities each branch has. I am not sure the three branches of Government know for sure what their responsibilities are. To make statements President Bush is mandating policy is totally untrue and unfair. The President has no power to operate by edict or mandate. Presidents offer leadership for the rest of Government to follow. Congress is the only branch of Government who has the power to make law, appropriate money or disperse money. It is a common practice of the Media to start a story with a snappy headline fill in with some clever sound bits and totally miss the real story in their quest for center stage. It’s not about the Reporter it’s about the Reporting.

The Founding fathers established a set of rules, they were written down and signed thus becoming the law of the land “The Constitution”. These rules could only be changed in a long tedious process by amending The Constitution. This was to prevent any President from ruling by edict or mandate. The Founding fathers again in their wisdom gave those who would spread the word “The Press” Media or what ever one cares to call it certain freedoms from Governmental control. Being men of integrity themselves they assumed those who would govern and those who would report would likewise be men of integrity.

The first totally Free press any where in the world was established. It has responsibilities to its readers to remain free that included, freedom from bias.

I find an unprecedented social and political bias in Government , the Courts, the Media, even in the general Public. It’s all around us it’s like a cancer. Nothing is right, nothing is sacred, very little is shared. No one seems to be very happy, respect is at a low point.

I’m not concerned with one article I happen to disagree with. I’m concerned the whole political system is off in the wrong direction. The candidates and those who report their behavior seem to only be interested in the negative, personal attaches are the norm. It seems nothing is going well in the country. Perhaps the President is right we should investigate Mars. Those who find this country so far out of balance could go to Mars and do it their way. Those of us who happen to think America is the best Country in the world filled with opportunities can stay and enjoy ourselves unimpeded.

Presidents have very little power to make law and no powers to spend the peoples money. Only Congress can do that . If there is a problem with trade agreements, taxes, etc. etc. Blame Congress their stamp must be on every thing the President does.

Presidents of both parties take the rap for many things they have no control over. The News Media, the minute anyone suggests a new program it immediately is credited to the President often even before he’s heard about it. It’s not Bush’s tax cut it was passed by a majority in Congress. It’s not Bush’s war it was approved by the Congress and the UN. Bush didn’t lie about WMD’s the world lied about WMD’s . Lets give the Bush bashing a break and get on with something positive. Only Congress can mandate and edict at their discretion. Presidents have no such privilege.
