EFAs And Oil May Be Key To Fibromyalgeia Relief
Dec 9, 2003

Fibromyalgia affects millions of people each day. According to the medical community there is no down pt answer. And that contradicts what the researches have shown.

Fibromyalgia can be broken down in a few ways. Fibro meaning the fibers of the neurological system, myalgia meaning pain.

When one is to look under a microscope at the nerves we can see that there are layers that insulate the nerves. Much the way the coating on a lamp cord insulated the electrical path to the light itself from the wall outlet.

Fibromyalgia is within this concept. The nerves are so accentuated that they become pained. They themselves experience pain within their own realm. Hypersensitizing the area around it.

When nerves are unsheathed they create massive random discharges of electricity, and that enervates the muscles and surrounding tissues. The body then produces prostagalins to counter act and protect the annoyed areas. This in turn leads to swelling, joint pain and a host of other complications.

Often the simplest way to treat something is to understand it. Doctors want to alleviate pain, but by just doing that, they might be overlooking what is actually going on.

I am fortunate enough to have a nutritional medical practice. And I get to see things that are often overlooked, And many of these maybe as simple as diet. Below is the case file of three women who gave me permission to write about them in a clinical manner. All three are very good friends of mine, and they felt that perhaps, their success would help others who may not be finding the relief that they so deserve and need.

In my own clinical study of three severe deforming cases of fibromyalgia, a study was conducted as to their diets and habits. In all cases they were young women who have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and other secondary complications.

In review of their diets and medications prescribed all were taking a sleeping RX (Ambian being the most common) and either oxycontin or other high level pain killers.

One was also DX with sjogrens and lupus. All three complained of no pain relief, sleep disturbance with night terrors, auditory hallucinations, mild paranoia, loss of temper, lack of concentration, arthritic joint pain, dry skin, lack of appetite and irregular periods. After evaluation of all three it was agreed upon a natural course of help.

All three began with a twelve-hour fast of Chinese oolong tea with hibiscus and clear soups and no yeast crackers.

During the 12 hours and intensive logbook was created of foods that they normally consumed. Many were on fad diets for weight loss and often consisted of high proteins and low fats. All three were stressed out and often grabbed convenience foods as well.

Suggestions of diet change were welcomed a new diet was set up. Two tablespoons of virgin olive oil daily with 1 teaspoon of red wine vinegar. A course of oolong tea for 3 times a day for 3 days.

The outcome after 24 hours was that the medication reaction improved providing some relief. After sleep, the following day dietary treatment began. This was to be for 7 days. Every meal included: Olive oil, butter, and 4 ounces of sweet potatoes or yam and red meat. Restricted was any high protein foods, such as chicken, fish, tofu etc.

After 7 days, each patient was instructed to go back to his or her physician. All three showed marked improvement. Medication was reduced and continued remission of symptoms escalated.

After 6 months two of the people were totally removed from all medication. 1 refused to be removed from medication and was subsequently diagnosed as Munchausens Syndrome.

1 year later, the two people have had to only take Tylenol for minor aches and pains, and have remained on the mixed fat diets. High proteins have been tested by themselves and found their symptoms returned after resuming their old diets. 1 patient has gone on to become a massage therapist.

In conclusion, Fats play a vital role in the protection of nerves. Many Fibromyalgia patients are women who have taken to fad diets, consume high proteins or take massive medications and certain herbal supplements. This combination in a majority of cases exacerbates the syndrome.

If one were to do a nerve induction test of the Fibromyalgia patient one would see spikes and severe reactions, not unlike neuropathy. After some doctors recommended oils and fats into the diets, the doctors also saw a marked improvement and perhaps a supplement to the often- massive doses of corticosteroids, pain medications etc.

There are currently two other closed clinical studies that are being conducted on medications versus diets for the treatment as a standard of Fibromyalgia.

If you have a patient that has the condition and is not responding as well as they should, a diet change and inclusion of oils to protect the myochindrial sheaths and insulate the axons may be the answer.
