Save A Kidney Eat A Donut!
May 10, 2004

So there you are. The only one in along line of hungry people at a fast food restaurant and actually being daring enough to order a burger on a. BUN!

Yes people I said Bun, Bread, carbohydrate. I want to keep my kidneys thank you!

As a medical professional and a victim, yes I said victim of Atkins I would to say Jqkweyrfiuqebfkjq&&%^^&$$@ to Dr. Atkins. What the heck could he have been thinking!

As any first or second or third year pre med or medical student knows the kidneys can’t handle too much protein. They simply cant. They will erode from the protein filtering and the body will produce a very volatile acid called Ketones. Now Ketones, as these experts are saying are supposed to be good. BAH, Phooey, they are insane. That is why a when you show ketones in urine tests they put you on medication, that’s why diabetics have to watch out for ketones, Ketosis causes” So basically what these experts are saying is that Marsamus, Kwashiorkor etc. are Good for you! What idiots!

You know what ketones are? Think if you will to a time when you didn’t have non-acetone nail polish remover, As you know acetone is a very powerful dissolver. Now imagine if you will that stuff in you blood stream, now imagine pouring that acid on a pair of nylon pantyhose. Or even better getting a drop of any type of nail polish remover on a CD! Ooze melt. Dissolve. Yep people that is what is happening when you eat high proteins. To every part of your body, organs, bone, vessels, everything.

According to the Merck Index of medical diagnostics Marsamus is bad, kwashiorkor is very bad… ketones are bad. So why are they hyping to you the fair and believing public that these are good….

Because people are losing weight. or at the very least thinking they are loosing fat, and weight. Not true excess weight mind you. Oh no. Here are the stages condensed. Of course. First you restrict calories… Water; water soluble fats (these are the fat cells that are needed to surround nerves and organs) Then comes muscle to help burn off the fat, The proteins you are putting in your body do not get used as you think… then the asccetes , then your electrolytes go haywire then you start to burn stored fat while you r endocrine system goes into overdrive. You dissolve bone tissue to compensate for the lack of carbohydrates. Your blood levels go out of whack just slightly.

Ladies and gentlemen of the reading public, You have been duped. Atkins has made you all become ill informed and walking disasters waiting to happen. Of course the dialysis’s centers will love it, you will put all those people back to work.

You see you need the carbohydrate to literally buffer the proteins. Now medical research has shown that in the fist 6 weeks of the diet total cholesterol will drop, what they don’t tell you is that after 6 weeks the body starts to produce too much other nasty things.

Ketones are dangerous as they eat away at other organs. Ketosis no matter how much they say its good, it is not good. It’s dangerous and deadly. It’s not healthy. There have been reported deaths from Atkins, and other high protein diets, blood works reviews have been at best shaky as they are indicating long term effects of this diet, we are seeing teenagers becoming ill, and most of all we are seeing irreparable effects on organs. You the public are not being made aware of the need to monitor your ketones. You are not being made aware that like any fad diet these are dangerous.

The public is not being told everything. If you go on any type of high protein diet you should monitor yourself, using a urine strip. If any showing of proteins, nitrites, heavy specific gravity, or blood (yes too much protein will cause blood traces in urine) should be reported to your doctor. Damage has been done. But does the diet tell you to monitor. No. They don’t go into the dynamics of what is happening.

I wasn’t on the Atkins diet, perse… I am thankfully diabetic. I have to watch what I eat and how much. But a few local Diabetic educators have suggested it and we did try it for a week. I had no showing of the proteins until that two-week trial. I trusted my own DE. After two weeks I was at +++ proteins, nitrites and ketoses. My BG was good at 90 consistently. But that was the beginning of the end. Now I am not allowed more than 41 grams of protein and I have to watch even more. I thankfully get 45 grams carbohydrates per meal to buffer.

I hate it that every where I go Atkins is being shoved in my face. I don’t look forward to the patients that I have to work with that thought they were doing their health a good turn. How I wish the days of Pritikin and WW were in the forefront. Now those diets are logical and balanced and don’t cause harm… If anything they are great for disease treatments and disease prevention! Be good to yourself. Eat a bun! Or better yet eat a Krispy Kreme donut! And save your kidney!
