Sept 8, 2003 Robert Frost says of people: They cannot look out far. They cannot look in deep. But when was that ever a bar To any watch they keep? This is a general truth as concerns people at all points of our short and problematic history. Yet, there are slices within history, going back to the Sumerians, where people seem not to be able to even notice what's plainly presented to them. There are moments when men cannot see truth staring them in the face. At certain times, people will remain un-phased as farce does a Puckish dance before their very eyes. Over the past 40 short years we have lived, and still are living, in one of those slices of history. While there have been corrupting influences afoot in America since day two of our history, it was just over 40 years ago that Robert Kennedy was still able to ask Sen. Joe McCarthy to be Godfather to his son Joe Kennedy. It was just after this period that a major American political party was turned, as a spy would turn a government offcial. While at first these doings were deep and far from evident, it soon became quite perceivable that the Democrat Party had donned a secular hat and a socialist cloak. Today the DNC unabashedly dances before us as Squirrel Nutkin did before Old Mr. Brown the Owl. Many refuse to see this fact, some cannot see it, and still others, like the Republicans in Congress, view them as a loyal opposition. Well, an opposition they are, but the Democrats are only loyal to themselves and their machinations. At best, the Republicans are a Party to be pitied, as they trip, fall, sprawl and grovel from episode to episode. Watching the Republicans during the Clinton years was an experience out of Vaudeville. As more and more was revealed about the Clinton Administration, more and more Republicans resigned from office. All they needed were spats, a hat and a cane, and they could have taken the show on the road. Rat-a-tat-tat...Boom! When President Kennedy used the IRS to attack organizations which were a threat to his administration, the victims had to duck and dodge, and even shut-up about the attacks. It was accepted as the way things would now be done. Nixon, unwisely, decided on the same use of the IRS, but the response was totally different. It became part of what led to his resignation, and the Republicans made sure Nixon resigned. Nixon's Tax Commissioner put an end to the political use of the IRS, but this only lasted until Hillary came out from under Little Rock. Hillary STILL is viable presidential material, even though Bill O'Reilly and others claim the Clintons used the IRS against them. I assure you, Hillary's girl- friend at the IRS didn't get orders from President Bill Clinton. Speaking of presidential candidates, imagine if Rev. Pat Robertson had called a Jewish store- owner an interloper for days-on-end, and then a nut-case murdered the store-owner. Do you think Rev. Robertson could run for President after an episode like that? He wouldn't be able to run for Dogcatcher, and would probably end up in the clink. Yet, right before our very eyes Rev. Sharpton runs for President, gets interviewed by O'Reilly, while having executed this very scenario on 125th Street in Harlem. Rev. Sharpton used a Public School to broadcast his 'Interloper Sermon', but here we go blind to the Church/State separation myth. We hear Democrats and Republicans cackle about the rule of law, as Liberals ignore it and the Conservatives grab their hat and cane. The Sanctuary Movement of the 1980's was law- breaking on a National scale, but they were the correct sort of law-breakers. They were seen as people of great compassion and heroic character. A few years later, the group which had the Feds come down on them was the Christian Coalition, because they had the disgusting habit of giving Congressional Voting-Records to church members. The Christian Coalition was stopped, and the Nation was saved. Puck danced his farce in our face --- but no one saw a thing. Let's say a group of White Evangelicals drove those aircraft into the WTC; what would be different in a post 9-11 America? First of all, every political party would know exactly who to search for, and what to do with them. Second, the film-footage of the people jumping and pedalling through mid-air would be looped and played everyday just to keep the search at fever-pitch. Third, the Republicans would be groveling before the Democrats asking to be forgiven. So what if the terrorist ring caught in Buffalo was made up of Democrats --- I didn't see anything, did you? When Christians point out that the Scriptures teach against homosexuality, the Secular- Socialists convulse over such 'violent speech'. Yet, when churches in Texas and Ohio ACTUALLY have violence done against them for teaching that Homosexuality is a sin, we can't seem to see who the really dangerous people are. Ted Kopple doesn't get contorted over this type of lawlessness, he can't see it. Those Christians in Alabama who were viciously praying on the steps of the Court House were lectured by Democrats and Republicans about the rule of law. This condescending lecture goes on while President Bush refuses to enforce Immigration Law, and a number of Cities ANNOUNCED they will not follow the Laws found in the Patriot Act. Get your spats on, boys, the show is about to start. Now, over in California, Gov. Davis has run into thousands of law-breakers, and, as President Bush, the Courts and Congress look on, how does Davis deal with these law-breakers?? He gives them driver's licenses, so they can vote Democrat in the next election. As the DNC ignores the law, the RNC gets their Tap-Shoes on, and we all make- believe we don't see a thing. Still, we can all breath a sigh of relief because that granite block down in Alabama has been put out of sight. Most of us cannot see the truth looking us right in the face. While some have a sense that farce is in the air, others mount the Vaudeville Stage. Hurry, hurry!!
