Aug 28, 2003 According to the Torah, when God approached the first Hebrew, Abraham, He didn't bring him doctrines, statutes and Law. God gave Abraham the chance of a life-time in that He offered him a personal relationship. Abraham believed this to be possible, and God and Abraham began a journey which would change the world. From out of this relationship came Moses, Jesus and the Judeo- Christian world-view. From out of this Judeo- Christian world-view came America. Yes, I know bad people also came to America and did wrong, and instituted corrupt practices. This also happened everywhere else in the world, and is still going on in many places. Back to the point: From the beginning God wanted us each to know Him personally ... not legally. The problem with law is that it codifies personal relationships, which means they are not personal. When a wealthy woman is about to get married, but first has her Intended sign a pre-nuptial agreement, she invariably says, "Nothing personal." Exactly! When God made Himself vulnerable and finally gave the Law to the Nation of Israel, the stage was set for 'experts' in law to play god. When written law states something, there is plenty that isn't stated, and lawyers know and act on this lack. If one has kept the letter of the Law, one might feel free to trespass it in spirit. According to Jesus we must keep the spirit of the Law. The lawyer's manipulation of the Law of Moses got so pervasive and extreme that, by the time Jesus walked Galilee and Judea, a few Jewish big-shots kept the many Jewish little-shots from any liberity or options. Jesus' response to this was clear, "Woe to you Scribes (lawyers)... hypocrites." By the time the Middle-Ages rolled around another set of lawyers used the people's illiteracy and inability to read Latin to, once again, keep people in the dark concerning God's interest in a personal relationship with them. The Reformation, Bibles in common language, and the 1st Great Awakening reclaimed the people's right to a personal relationship with God, and, therefore, to self-policing. This reclamation set the stage for the creation of America. The Declaration of Independence was directed by the Founding Fathers to be read in the churches of the Several States AFTER the Sunday Morning Sermon. The Nation of America, like early-on in Israel's history, was based on the people's ability to read, understand and keep God's Law. People who are able to keep such an audience with God's Word, certainly could handle the Constitution then being created by the Founders. Ah, but along came the Scribes. Court decision after court decision was wrapped around the Constitution and Bill of Rights, so that the American little-shots are now held at the mercy of what lawyers say the people can do. The taxes paid by Bible Believers are used for every social effort and experiment imaginable, but Evangelicals MUST keep their wishes and history out of public view. Pastors across America are trying to figure out where the State ends and the Church begins. Many Pastors are only concerned with where tax-exemption begins and their paycheck ends. Bible Believers are left in the fields without a shepard, as the wolves gather around. Some Christians have turned to Gospel by quip; 'God bless America', 'is it a good-thing or a God-thing', 'what would Jesus do?'. Precious. Bible Believers do, however, have options and power, and these options can be excercised within the system. Early Rabbis and early Christians were given the Biblical authority to 'lose' and 'bind' in the meta-physical arena, and if in the meta-physical, then certainly in the political arena. The American system, which Jesus and Paul did NOT travel under, gives us options that can change the American scene, but we must be willing to accept the results of these actions. The Apostle Paul set out directives for the Church, which included placing unrepentant Church members into the hands of non-believers. (Outside of the Church) If Bible Believers can apply Paul's instructions to Church life, we can certainly apply them to the State. President Bush (who sees Jesus as a Philosopher) has been trying for some time to cull votes from traditionally Democrat voters (Blacks, Gays, AARP, NEA, etc.). It may be that he is trying to find some way to off-load Evangelicals. Bible Believers are an embarrassment to the RNC in much the same way Jesse Jackson's people are an embarrassment to the DNC. The DNC has been leading-along the Black Community for 60 years now, and the RNC is well on its way to treating Evangelicals this way. The next Presidential cycle may be the last where the Evangelical vote is needed by the RNC. What if Evangelicals 'bound' this Nation over to the Secular-Socialist DNC? What if Bible Belivers wrote-in for President in 2004 people like Roy Moore or Alan Keyes? Rush Limbaugh, who used to have a talk-radio program and now is just a Conservative rendition of Ed Koch, believes we must "learn to live" with Court Orders. (Notice I did NOT say laws.) When the Nuremberg Laws were passed in 1935, I'm sure Jews were told to learn to live with them. Some Baptists and Methodists (German Evangelicals) ignored the Nuremberg Laws, and paid the price for their actions. They knew the Jews COULD NOT LIVE with it. Rush also believes we should work within the system, regardless of the experience of the past 40 years. Well, OK. Evangelicals who write-in anyone but George Bush in the 2004 Election will be working within the system ... would they not? Is the Mutated American System brave enough to let Secular-Socialists have full sway? Some say that just because we can't keep the Ten Commandments in Courts doesn't mean we can't teach them to our children. Yet, I can hear the people back in 1962 saying that just because we must stop prayer in school doesn't mean we can't keep the Ten Commandments in public view. NOW IT DOES!!! When should the frog have jumped out of the pot of water? The Nuremberg Laws didn't say that Jews had to be put in ovens --- but they were. What should Christians do when a judge orders us not to teach children the 'hate-filled' sections of Scripture --- learn to live with it?? The time for talk has ended, the time for action has begun. I'm amused by what one CNN talking- head said of the Christians at the Montgomery Court House, "They are getting quite vocal at times." Wow, vocal Christians!! Next they'll want equal-rights! I wish Jackson's people, the Homosexuals, the Environmentalists, and the Unions had ONLY been 'quite vocal' over the past 40 years. When they looted and pillaged across this Nation, the CNN-type asked us to 'understand'. As Bible Believers we do NOT have the option of looting and violence. Because of there being many Christians living in this Country, all the other interest groups are able to live-free and pursue happiness. When Norman Rockwell drew people from all religions and creeds on the 1961 cover of the Saturday Evening Post, he printed across the picture the words of Jesus, not Buddha. Jesus said, "Do unto others as you would have others do unto you." In other words, without the Judeo- Christian foundation of America and the Ten Commandments, all other groups will lose their freedom. Non-christians think that by removing the Commandments they will set themselves free. In actuality they seal their own doom. ------------ About the author: Joe Magoo is trained as a Theologian and Church Historian. He resides on Long Island, N.Y.
