Gene LaBargeApr 10, 2002 Just 3 weeks into the war on Iraq, people are celebrating in the streets. I’m not talking about U.S. streets. The streets of Baghdad. Decades of oppression are ending for Iraqi citizens. Statues of Saddam Hussein have been pulled down and posters ripped apart. This hardly looks like what the “peace people” predicted. Yes, the trapped in the past anti-war nuts wanted us to believe that the Iraqi people chose this life. It is obvious that was not the case. Seeing people dragging the head of Saddam’s statue through the streets was an amazing sight. Hitting it with their shoes, spitting on it... was not the sight of a people wanting to be left alone. The ones wanting to be left alone were the oppressors. Watching the people cheering for America, kissing soldiers, chanting “No Saddam” and saying “thank you Mr. Bush” should be a happy day for any real peace loving people. A week ago they would have been killed on sight for any displays against Saddam’s Regime. To think all this just 3 weeks since the start of the start of the war is just remarkable. It was only about a week ago the media was reporting that the Coalition forces were getting bogged down. The plan was not working. The truth is that this is already one of the greatest military victories of all time. The protestors have seemed to diminish in number. Unfortunately, they are mostly just hiding in the distance. Like vultures, they wait for an opportunity to pounce. They are not really for peace. Like the build up to the war, they will twist the truth with the help of much of the media. They feed off tragedy. This is why they only focus on the negative things. Why do you think they have such disdain for Christianity and for George W. Bush? When they do muster up the strength to say something positive they always follow it with a “but”.... Let’s not forget France, Germany, China and Russia opposing us at every turn. They wanted to give Saddam more time. Thank God for the courage of George Bush and Tony Blair. The war with Iraq is not over and the war on terror is far from over. There will be tough days ahead. The good news is that the liberation of Iraq is well under way and justice is being brought to the tyrants. Another victory for freedom! ------------ Gene LaBarge is an aspiring political commentator and publisher of several websites including abfnews.com.
