Gene LaBargeFeb 13, 2002 One thing America has learned over the last couple years is who our enemies are. The list is much larger than most would have thought. Even more disturbing is that we have enemies in high places right here in the United States. First we found out that terrorists were plotting to destroy our country, not just Israel. We may have known for a long time that there were terrorists who would do harm to us, but few knew just how extensive that list was. There were not many who knew they had the means to carry out such attacks. The Bush Administration has done a great job in identifying and bringing to justice a great many of these terrorists. We have also learned much about countries that are enemies of the United States. Iraq, Iran and North Korea were not big surprises. China continues to prove that they are a mortal enemy. They have been open about their desire to destroy America. Their massive thefts of our military secrets during the Clinton years have made them extremely dangerous. Of course, China has sided with France and Russia in their efforts to block the U.S. led war against Iraq. Two others who have proven that they cannot be trusted. Not that Russia has ever been worthy of any real trust. Lets not forget Germany. What have they done to prove they are not against America? France, Germany and Belgium have balked at efforts to defend Turkey from Iraq. In my opinion, all three should be booted right out of NATO. Fortunately there are 16 members who still represent NATO the way it was intended. All this makes the United Nations a joke as well. The world can only be worse off if the U.N. is allowed relevance in the future. There are plenty of enemies here at home as well. The latest celebrity anti-American airhead to join the list is Madonna. With her career in ruins, she needs something to incite some lowlifes into buying her music. This is about all the shock value she has left. She has no more clothes left to take off. We have the scattered nuts carrying the worn out “no war for oil” signs... People who choose to use their right of free speech to fight against the very freedom that allows it. Where were they when Clinton was lobbing cruise missiles during the Lewinsky scandal? No list of Americans against America would be complete without mentioning some liberal democrat leaders. Tom Daschle, Ted Kennedy and Hillary Clinton continue to exploit America’s challenges out of political desperation. Their latest attempt is to criticize the effort to protect America at home. This is the equivalent of the “hail mary” in football. Think about it. They only win if America is hit with terrorism. We know from past history that they have placed the lowest of priorities on protecting us from terrorists. Where were they when Bill Clinton left the floodgates open for terrorists to build the enormous network that they now have. Where was the outrage over the massive thefts of our military secrets? Hillary was always willing to ride Bill’s coattails, so why not acknowledge the many frightening lapses that have come to light? It is amazing that the very people who have done nothing are the ones who attack the President. In fact, these people provide no alternative. All they can do is complain and obstruct. This divides our country and gives hope to our enemies. It is appalling. In my opinion this makes them enemies from within. We would not get nearly as much resistance from other countries as we have, if it were not for those who seek political gain here at home. When the chips are down, you find out who your friends are. One thing I am sure of. President Bush will remember those who have tried to undermine America in one of its darkest hours.
