Gene LaBargeNov 7, 2002 The liberal lies and tricks caught up with them on Tuesday. In an election defeat of epic proportions, the democrats lost control of the Senate and finished far worse across the board than what was being predicted. The democrats are a party in disarray. Gephardt will step aside. Many want McAuliffe to resign. They are looking for new faces. Now they want to know what went wrong. Why didn’t the usual lies and deceptions work this time? I think the biggest reason is that Americans were paying closer attention since 9/11 than perhaps ever before. People who seldom paid attention to the news before are listening now. They see that the liberals have tried to make a negative issue out of anything they can to hurt President Bush. Siding with republicans only when the poll numbers dictate. That has worked in the past. Not this time. Too many people were paying attention. Then there were the dirty tactics. Trying to use Paul Wellstone’s death for political gain. I have little doubt as to why the debate between Mondale and Coleman was held in the morning, the day before the election. They knew that many would only see the bits shown by the media. Of course they made Mondale look like the winner. They must really be shocked that they lost that race. Allowing Bill Clinton and Al Gore to stump for them seems to have had major negative effects as well. Still trying to convince people that Bush didn’t win in 2000. These guys have no class and no respect. People now know that Clinton/Gore are largely responsible for the troubled economy and for allowing Americans to become vulnerable to terrorism. Then there were the ruthless attempts by the liberals to defeat Jeb Bush. Janet Reno, Bill Clinton, Al Gore and Terry McAuliffe to name a few that did all they could to unseat Bush. The party poured the money in to bring him down. All because he is the President’s brother and because they wanted to show that Florida was angry. Wrong again. Many Americans had become fed up with Daschle and the do nothing Senate. Issues as important as homeland security, the war on terror and judicial nominees have been shamelessly stalled. Of course, it would not be fair without giving President Bush much of the credit for the latest Republican Revolution. The liberals made it easier for Americans to realize what a great job he has done under some of the toughest circumstances ever. They made it easy to see the differences between Bush and Clinton. All the insults about Bush’s intelligence have turned out to be pathetic lies. Trying to scare the elderly and the poor into thinking that Bush hates them. Trying to convince people that republicans want to destroy the environment. Playing the race card. They have simply overplayed all those lies. The history books may say that America was united after 9/11. That is far from the truth. Not the first year after the attack. The liberals had the opportunity to work with republicans and make a great place for themselves in history. They just couldn’t stand to see George W. Bush as the leader. Maybe now we will be united. I don’t know. What we will probably see is the repackaging of the same old lies. ------------ Gene LaBarge is an aspiring political commentator and publisher of several websites including abfnews.com.
